It was the spring on 1997 when I first laid eyes on the Charm. I was watching the Santa Anita Derby, mainly to see on of my favorite fillies, Sharp Cat, take on the boys. Instead of Sharp Cat, I found my attention focused on a different horse...a battleship gray. He battled Sharp Cat through fast fractions, but when he faded, he battled on. He was defeated that day, but his stunning looks and huge display of heart had won me over. Each time out, as he continued to display that extreme will to win, I loved him more and more. In December of 1997, just a month or so after I founded a fan club for him, I was invited to come meet him and watch him run in the Malibu by the United Thoroughbred Fan Clubs. Needless to say, when he spent a half hour licking my hand I knew he was my Charm forever!
