I had meant to get up bright and early to go to the Earth Charter Summit today. However, some shit happened last night and I didn't get to sleep until 1 a.m., so when my alarm went off at 8:30, I said 'screw it' and went back to sleep. Luckly, the Earth Charter thing was within eyeshot of my window, so when I did leave the room at 9:30 it wasn't exactly hard to go over there. I decided that the first order of business this morning (after showering) was to get breakfast. Unforunatly, breakfast for me often means feeding my addiction for Krispy Kreme. Those things are so good, it's not even funny. I try to resist their siern call, since I'm paranoid about gaining weight. Alas, I love them too much and I never resit. Besides which the only other breakfast option is an egg sandwich, and I don't much care for eggs. So Krispy Krack it is. Anyways, moving right along. I walked over to the stadium, fully expecting a cool event that I could stay at all day. Not so much the reality. There were some tables of various groups, and the lineup of speakers. Now, I'm fairly liberal, I'm smart enough, I'm a vegetarian,a feminist, and environmentalist within my own bounds. You thing that I'd be in heaven at such an event. The liberal front has one big, honking problem as I see it. They discrimnate. There's a constant undercurrent in many liberal organizations, of all or nothing. You've full into everything they say and do, or you're aganist them. Can a person be a good feminist, if they shave their legs, and own a dress? Logically, yes, but it's the same mindset of many groups that if you don't conform then you're not dedciated to the cause. It's not just lefty groups, I see it every day. It starts early. In school, you're a preppie, a stoner, or a goth. No middle ground is provided, conform or be alone. I got lucky, I met other people who were outside the the lines, most people don't get lucky. It should be more important to beleive in philsophy, then in a lifestyle. It is possible to be a independent person, and still adhere to the ideas of different groups. But, lots of people think that image is everything. Image shouldn't count, you can't entirely control image, you can control your mind. So, now I float between the boundries, since I don't fit any image. That sucks. If people keep up a mental barrier about image, then therir efforts are going to go nowhere fast. Danny Glover is really tall. That's all I to say about the speakers. Well, I'm all typed out for today. Just remember not to make sanp judgements about people, everyone is equal. |
Peace starts at home. |
