Steven
Flinn wins the “Army National Guard at the Glen” !
Wow
Steve, 2nd Win in last 3 races now! You have to be pleased with winning at
Pocono and two weeks later winning here at the glen?
Yeah I'm very happy to see
my luck start to turn around. I
suffered through a slump for a while and it makes me really appreciate a good
finish. The Texas Networking Solutions
Chevy has been running very good lately.
You
took the pole with a time of 1.15.4. Did that surprise you, or did you know you
could pull a fast lap time like that?
I felt like if I hit a
perfect lap I could get in the 1:15.8 range, but a 1:15.4 was a nice surprise.
For
the second time in the last 3 races now, it came down to you and John Hayes
closing the gap on you as the laps were winding down. What was going through
your mind those closing laps?
I felt that if I didn't make
any mistakes he would have a hard time passing me, but my car was loose and I
was making mistakes every lap. If the
race was one lap longer he probably would have passed me.
Having
no cautions the entire race. Did having to get by lapped traffic cause any
problems for you?
I caught the traffic in the
right places and they didn't give me any problems. I had to make a few aggressive passes but everyone gave me room.
Tell
us how a driver having to navigate 492 turns , 11 per lap, can wear on a
driver?
My arms were getting tired
near the end and I was sweating pretty badly.
Having to handle a loose car didn't help that situation much.
When
you pitted , did you have to make any adjustments other than tires and fuel?
I took off a piece of tape
from the grill because the engine was running a little too hot, other than that
I made no adjustments.
Last
4 races now Steve, you’ve had 2 wins, and 4 top 5 finishes. Have you changed
anything on how you run a race as of late?
Having a cable modem has
helped the most, but I also found some new setup tricks that have been working
very well for me.
Next
week, SORS East heads to Michigan Super speedway. Is This a Track Steve Flinn
looks forward to bringing his #29 chevy to?
I enjoy the racing there at
Michigan even though I don't have the fastest setup for there. Two and three wide at 190 mph is a blast.
As
late you’ve steadily been climbing the points ladder in the point standings.
What’s your goal for the rest of the Season?
I'm too far back in the
points to have a chance at the championship, but I would like to lead the
league in wins.
I
think we can that monkey you had on your back has gone off to bigger and better
things Steve! LOL Congratulations again on a dominating driving performance
here today at Watkins Glen!
Thank
you for taking the time to speak with us today. Hope you can keep the streak
going! anything you’d like to add or comment on?
That monkey has been shot and killed, and is now
taking a dirt nap in my front yard !!! I have to thank Texas Networking
Solutions and all the guys in SORS East for making it such a fun league to race
in.
