Don Young
finds the Right place at Daytona!
Wow Don!
Congratulations on winning the SORS East Night Daytona Race! Did you
expect to be on the right place at the right time with 3 laps to go?
Actually No! LOL, I usually don't have a lot of luck
at the Superspeedways, so I'm very thankful I got the shot this time.
What went through your
mind on the restart with 6 to go?
Watch for the
wreck !!
The fans couldn’t believe it with 2 incidents taking
place on the same lap on lap 78. It
appeared you were going to secure a 5th place finish. How shocking was it to
come racing back to the line, and seeing the top 4 in wreck, and you now in 1st
place?
Its not the
best way to win, but not unusual for a SS because of the tight racing. I guess
my bad luck on the restart payed off this time! I would have been very happy
with a Top 5 which was my goal.
In your opinion, what was the one thing that paid off for
you for securing the win here at daytona?
I guess it was
my patience on the restart. The leaders bunched up on the restart, so rather
than bump the guy in front of me I hit the brakes, which caused me to
immediatly loose the draft and fall back. I probably would have been involved
in one of the wrecks if it weren't for that.
With there being 2 racing grooves/lines here at Daytona,
was it frustrating at all during the race with cars racing side by side lap
after lap?
Yes! It
requires intense concentration which is very tiring, which kind of lowers the
fun factor sometimes :)
Your Feeling on
Restrictor plate racing? In Favor or
against?
I actually
have mixed feeling about that and would like to see Plate racing and
unresticted SS racing also.
Coming up to the season midpoint, You’re definitely in
contention in the points for the season championship. What does Don Young have
to do for the last ˝ of the season to secure the crown?
Stay stable
and consistant and don't try anything crazy !
You missed the Michigan race back in June. How
frustrating was that being in 1st in points and missing that race?
You don't know
how much that hurt not to be there. Michigan is one of my stronger tracks! I
love it there!
Last 2 races winning here tonight at Daytona, and a 4th
place finish last week at Talladega. Back to back super speedways. Did it make
the transition from Tally to Daytona easier more so in comparsion to say, going
from dover to pocono?
Yes it did
Mike! I back the steering way down on the SS so it takes me a while to get used
to it. When I leave the SS to go to a normal track, it feels like the car is
way too sensitive and I have to force myself not to desensitize it because I
know it's only because I just came from a SS.
A huge Congratulations
again Don for grabbing your 3rd win of the season! Thank you for speaking to us tonight here at Daytona on your
win. Do you have anything you’d like to
mention, comment on, or add?
Thanks Mike!
I'd like the thank Mr. Stratton for putting this fine league together and All
my brothers on the track for the clean racing!
