Don Young
patiently secures 2nd Place At Loudon!
Congratulations Don on
another fine 2nd place finish at Loudon NH today!
Did you have a sense or
gut feeling you would have that strong of car prior to the race?
Yes! I make a
special effort here because it's my home track !
Your
thoughts on having 12 cautions, and was it what you were looking for in regards
to long or short green flag runs?
Too many
:( I actually set up for a medium
length run so as too keep some stability in the car.
With 10 laps to go , did you think had anything left for
Brent Gagnes #01 Chevy?
I knew I
wasn't faster than him and my winning probably would have depended on him
making a mistake, so I just wanted to keep my 2nd place and not take any risky
chances.
I have to ask, but how do you always seem to miss the “big
wreck” each race week in, and week out?
Skill or luck? LOL
I do seem to
have a lot of luck when it comes to that, but I do keep in mind to focus ahead
as well as who is next to me.
What 1 piece of advice
from a veteran driver’s point of view, such as yourself, would you give to a 1st year driver who is
looking to improve?
Forget the speed and focus on the handling. Once you get
the handling the speed WILL come !
Last 5 races now, 2nd, 5th, 1st, 4th, and a tough 12th place
finish at Sears point. You’ve
definitely earned the title of “Mr Consistency” by finishing in the top 10 18
times now out of 20 races! You have to
be pleased with that?
Yes, very
Mike! Its so much more fun finishing with a not so fast car that handles rather
than fighting to keep the car straight all night, which can end your night
unexpectedly.
20 races in the record
books now, you’re the season points leader, and about 225 points separate the
top 5 drivers. Is this where you
expected to be in points at this point?
Any 1 or 2 races come to mind you would have drove or setup differently?
Actually, I
was only hoping to stay in the top 5. There is extra pressure being the leader,
lol. As far as a stupid move....Could
have won at Pocono if I didn't make that stupid move at the end!
The remaining races have a lot of flat tracks on the
Schedule. Any one particular driver, or drivers who you’re keeping a eye on in
the points? LOL
Well YAAA! Dan
is right on my butt and we are teamies, so that could get complicated :) and
John has been amazingly fast so I can't
afford to slack off at all!
1 word! “Pocono”!
The next track with long straightaways, and 3 different corners. 1st thing that Don Young thinks of when you
hear “Pocono”!
Its hard to be
stable and competative there, but I do like it there and plan on doing well :)
Fantastic Finish today Don here at Loudon finishing 2nd
place Thank you for taking the time to
speak to us today. Is there anything you’d like to add, or any comments you may
have?
Yes! Mike,
thanks for the chance to share this time you and all your readers, Its means a
lot to feel like a celebrity! Thanks to all the drivers and admins too for all
there efforts and fine racing!
