Ash tells Pikachu to enjoy the day vacation (and watch out for Togepi), then releases Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pidgeotto and even Charizard! Misty sets her little egg Pokémon on the ground and it teeters after Pikachu, followed by Staryu, Goldeen and the irrepressible Psyduck. Brock frees Vulpix, Geodude, Zubat and Onix from their Pokéballs as well, and now everyone is ready to enjoy a great day of fun and relaxation! The three humans leave, to return for their Pokémon at the end of the day.
But the Pokémon barely get settled down when something happens. Poor Togepi looks a little unhappy. It starts to bawl. Poor Pikachu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Psyduck are left to quiet the wailing infant. First Pikachu and Squirtle try making funny faces to cheer up Togepi. It doesn't work. When Squirtle spies an apple tree, Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf to pluck a shiny red apple from one of the high branches. But just then Psyduck waddles up and eats it! It seems hopeless. Then inspiration strikes Ash's grass Pokémon. Bulbasaur uses its vines to gently lift Togepi into the air. It rocks it to sleep while singing a soft lullaby.
Togepi is soon asleep, and the other Pokémon breathe a sigh of relief. But now another problem comes up. A gang of four Pokémon walking by is laughing loudly, and they wake the baby up again! Pikachu scampers up and puts a finger to its mouth, signaling for quiet. The four Pokémon (a Cubone, a Raichu and two new species, Snubble and Maril who look like a pink bulldog and a round blue mouse) are not too happy that their fun has been disturbed. They look ready to fight, but just then Pikachu spots Togepi wandering off and runs to save the helpless baby.
Togepi finds a log lying across a ravine with a river running through the bottom. Just as Pikachu catches up, the baby totters onto the unstable bridge. The electric mouse jumps on right after it, but the rock holding the log in place dislodges, and both Pokémon go rolling away! They balance on the log as it rolls along by running in place (Togepi is having a marvelous time) but soon a nasty bump sends Pikachu plunging into the water below!
Pikachu grabs a rock poking up out of the water and searches above anxiously. It watches as the log rolls right to the end of the river and plunges into a small lake, sending water Pokémon everywhere. But where's the baby? Not to worry, Togepi jumped off the log before it reached the water and now is happily walking along the edge of the ravine. Pikachu heaves a sigh of relief.
As Ash's Poké-pal returns to the group soggy and triumphant with Togepi on its back, it finds that things have just about come to blows. After Snubble made Squirtle fall over backward and Bulbasaur made the pink Pokémon so dizzy that it fell over as well, the two groups have just about had it. Pikachu knows they shouldn't fight and tries to break it up, but nobody's paying attention. Maril and Squirtle lock eyes on each other angrily. They decide there's only one way to solve this: a water race!
As the water Pokémon in the lake move aside to create a path, Squirtle and Maril stand ready on one side of the stretch of water. Pikachu, with the help of an explosive Electrode, signals to start. The two water Pokémon leap into the water, and they're off! Other water Pokémon provide obstacles in the water. First Maril runs headfirst into a Starmie, which shoots it back with a Water Gun attack. Then, when Squirtle is in the lead, a Goldeen swims under it and starts heading the other way! Squirtle slides off the fish's back and really puts on the heat, speeding through the water. It touches the opposite side of the lake triumphantly, only to look up and see Maril has already made it! Snubble, Raichu and Cubone cheer for their friend. Squirtle and Bulbasaur aren't quite as happy.
Then Raichu sneers, electricity sparkling from its yellow cheek pouches. Sparks fly. Togepi is standing nearby, and when the little baby is almost hit by the shocks Pikachu rushes to protect it. But one of them zaps Pikachu right in the tail! Forgetting its peaceful ways, it squares off with its evolution. Cheek to cheek the electric mice race through the park. They zoom up waterfalls, over playground equipment, through a garden maze. Peaceful Pokémon enjoying the day take cover as the two fly through their midst. Even Meowth, Arbok and Weezing, who are also taking a day off, are sent flying just as they're settling down for a nap! But when Raichu and Pikachu step of Charizard's tail as it sleeps, the real trouble begins.
Charizard wakes up a little cranky. Seeing the two go running off, it lumbers to its feet after them. With a burst of speed it overtakes the electric Pokémon, then turns around and roars angrily. A great gust of wind from its wings sends Raichu and Pikachu flying right off a cliff! Fortunately, the two fall on a sleeping Snorlax. Unfortunately, the Snorlax rolls over and squashes them! As they squeeze out from under it Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Togepi, Snubble, Maril and Cubone catch up. The eight Pokémon brace themselves as Charizard tries to blow them over with some fancy flying. It's so busy watching them it doesn't see where it's going. With a thundering crash it smashes into some playground equipment. Tumbling head over tail, it gets its head stuck in a pipe!
Many Pokémon gather around as Charizard thrashes and roars, trying to pull its head free. Thinking fast, the trainees of Ash, Misty and Brock tie a long rope around Charizard's leg. They take the rope in their various paws, claws, vines and mouths and start to pull. As the four bullies watch and laugh, the Pokémon pull so hard they all go flying and land in a big pile, with poor Pikachu on the bottom. Listening to the mocking laughter, Pikachu gets up and walks to the quartet of Pokémon. They stop laughing and look as Pikachu starts to talk. But surprisingly, it's asking for their help! Pikachu has swallowed its pride and begs the four to help them free their friend.
High above, Meowth and Team Rocket's other two Pokémon are again disturbed by a commotion. Meowth goes to the edge of the cliff where they're resting and looks over, just as Charizard's furious flames shoot up into the sky! A crispy kitty falls over backward with a groan. Back down below Maril, Snubble and Raichu smile and nod, agreeing to help out. The Pokémon take up position again and start to pull. Cubone watches sullenly. Its species has gotten its reputation as the lonely Pokémon because it often only thinks of itself. But as Cubone watches all its friends and foes together trying to free the stuck Charizard, it has a change of heart. Pikachu smiles gladly as the last Pokémon takes the rope in its claws.
Together the Pokémon tug and pull, and Charizard roars and breathes fire. Tears leak from its eyes inside the pipe. But finally it pops free and everyone goes flying once again! Charizard sails through the air, and when it finally lands it happens to come down right on poor Meowth! A blaster ball in the talking Pokémon's paws goes off, leaving a crater and a very blackened Meowth under Charizard's rear end! Meowth decides to take his nap right then and there. . . .
All's well that ends well, as the saying goes. The incident has now sealed the friendship of all the Pokémon in the park, and as they look around they realize some work needs to be done. Between the two electric Pokémons' race and Charizard's flying catastrophe, the entire park has been leveled! The Pokémon decide to pitch in to rebuild. They put the wooden jungle gym back together, re-stack the tire mountain, and soon the whole park is sparkling like new.
And of course, all work and no play make for a very bad vacation. Now it's time for some fun! While Togepi and Vulpix play in the sandbox, Cubone and Pikachu try out the giant swings, and Squirtle leads a whole gang down a long slide that ends with a laughing heap of Pokémon! Then everyone builds a raft and goes floating down the river. Even Charizard, playing on the see-saw, is in a good mood for once!
At the end of the day, the sun is setting and Pikachu and its friends, new and old, stand to watch the beautiful sight. From outside the park the voices of Ash, Brock and Misty are heard as they call their Pokémon. The giant group moves out and the four former-bullies watch them leave. Suddenly Pikachu turns back. It smiles and extends a paw, which Snubble solemnly shakes, cementing the friendships that have been made that day. With a cheery wave Pikachu runs off to join the others. They run to their trainers, happy and relaxed. What a great vacation!
