Vibration Damping of CD Transport

The CDM14 SONY CD transport used in the Alpha 7 is a quiet, reliable performer. However, external vibrations can effect CD tracking resulting in music skips. A vibration-damping material Sorbothane™ was used to support the CD transport. This effectively prevents CDs from skipping due to external vibrations and movements (12" x 12" x 1/8" slab ~US$50.00).

Sorborthane Slab

Sorbothane™ polymer combines the dimensional stability of a solid with the physical properties of a liquid. It absorbs shock and vibrations in all directions (57% absorption efficiency) and dissipates energy (70% specific damping) to reform to its original shape even at high vibration frequencies.
