Matthew 5

14. Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.

15. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.

16. Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

God's Lighthouse Of Prayer Network Statement Of Beliefs

The Foundation:

Jesus Christ Is My Foundation

I.      I believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired (God breathed) and authoritative Word of God and is the supreme and final authority in faith and in life.

   A.      2nd Peter 1:21 "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

   B.      2nd Timothy 3:16 & 17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

   C.      1st Peter 1:23 "Being born again. . . . . by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
II.      I believe in one God, Who exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

   A.     John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

   B.     1st John 5:7 "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

   C.     Luke 1:35 ". . . .The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

   D.     Matthew 3:16 & 17 "And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
III.      I believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.

   A.     Luke 1:35 "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

   B.     Luke 1:26 & 27 "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary."

   C.     Romans 8:3 "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:"
IV.      I believe that ALL have sinned and this sin will bring about both a physical death and a spiritual death which will separate us from God.

   A.     Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

   B.     Romans 5:12 "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"

   C.     Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death...."
V.      I believe that Jesus died on Calvary and took OUR place so as to atone for OUR sins so we could be part of the family of God once again.

   A.     Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood."

   B.     Hebrews 9:28 "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many. . . . . ."

   C.     1st Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."

   C.     1st Peter 3:18 "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"
VI.      I believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

   A.     Matthew 28:5-7 "And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you."

   B.     John 20:27-29 "Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."
VII.      I believe that Jesus is presently at God's right hand acting as our High Priest and Advocate.

   A.     Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

   B.     Hebrews 4:14 &15 "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."

   C.     1st John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."

   D.     1st Peter 3:22 "Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him."
VIII.      I believe that Jesus is coming again and we shall see Him appear in the clouds.

   A.     Acts 1:11 "Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."

   B.     1st Thessalonians 4:16 & 17 "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

   C.     Hebrews 9:28 ". . . . . and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."

   D.     Titus 2:13 "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."
IX.      I believe that we are saved by confessing our sins to Jesus and accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord of our lives. This GIFT of Salvation is by GRACE and there is NOTHING we can do to merit it. This GIFT brings us into the family of God and gives us eternal life.

   A.     Romans 10:9 & 10 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

   B.     1st John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

   C.     1st John 2:1 & 2: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."

   D.     Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."

   E.     Romans 6:23 ". . . . but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

   F.     John 5:24 Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
X.      I believe that once we ask Jesus into our hearts our sins are FORGIVEN and then FORGOTTEN.

   A.     Isaiah 38:17 ". . . . . for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back."

   B.     Micah 7:19 ". . . . . and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."

   C.     Psalms 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."

   D.     Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out . . . ."
XI.      I believe a born again child of God will LOVE God with all of their heart and will LOVE their neighbors as they love themselves and WILL DAILY deny themselves and pick up their cross and follow after Jesus.

   A.     Mark 12:30 & 31 Jesus said, "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."

   B.     Luke 9:23 "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him DENY himself, and take up his cross DAILY, and follow me."

   C.     2nd Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

   D.     Philippians 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
XII.      I believe that the Holy Spirit, also called the Comforter, Holy Ghost and the Spirit of Truth, convicts the world of sin. We believe He dwells within the believer and further, we believe that since the Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Bible and since the Holy Spirit lives inside the believer, therefore the Holy Spirit can teach the believer all things and can guide the believer into all truth. We also believe that the Holy Spirit is the KEY to Christian growth and victory over sin.

   A.     John 16:8 "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment"

   B.     John 14:17 "Even the Spirit of truth. . . . for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."

   C.     2nd Peter 1:21 "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

   D.     John 14:26 "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

   E.     John 15:26 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: "

   F.     John 16:13 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: . . . ."

   G.     Romans 8:9-11 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you."
