Is religion the true source of evil in the world? I think so. Today on the news I watched the coverage of a bombing in Bali. It has left at least 200 dead by some estimations and, as is normally the case, the death toll could be higher. And why? Why did they have to die? What was their crime?
The answer is simple. There was no crime but they have been judged by the followers of men that have taken the Word of God and used it as a weapon to terrorise the faithful.
The Word of God; uttered by prophets and twisted by man to elevate himself above 'mere mortals'.
Religion has become big business with the 'Management' at the top, living in sumptuous palaces, getting fatter and richer. Leaving the rest of the flock to suffer in poverty. Cleanliness may be next to Godliness but on the other side stands an accountant. Religion is all about suffering. From the time we are old enough to understand we are constantly fed religious propaganda that tells us that suffering is good for the soul. That we do as we're told or hellfire and damnation await us as we breathe our last.
This isn't my God. My God wants me to enjoy the things that he has given me and to praise His name as I greet each new day with it's fresh challenges, for it is challenges that are good for the soul.
And what of the morallity of todays religious big shots? The Scriptures of the world all come to one inescapable conclusion. That the taking of life is wrong. And yet, ever since man started finding peoples with strange languages and strange names for God we have systematically tried to eradicate them from the face of the earth. Leading to the ritual slaughter of many men, women and children. Established religion calls for rivers of blood in His name.
This isn't my God. Is it yours?
Any god that demands blood sacrifice on such a huge scale is not, as I see it, the God of Humanity.
The heads of the richest religions in the world will continue to peddle suffering and hatred.
Forget the trappings of religion and find Faith. Find God.
