Chapter 5
Magical Kung-fu Club

It had been just twenty four minutes after History, when HRH noticed a notice on the notice board.

EVER PANICkED BECAUSE YOU CAN’T KUNG-FU AND USE MAGIC AT THE SAME TIME?
Well, here’s your chance to learn. Come to the hall at 7:00 PM to learn the art of Magical Kung-Fu

“Sound’s interesting that, doesn’t it?” Roger said.
“What, do you think the Trewartha Thing can duel?” Hewitt responded. But it could be useful. Roger had already out Kung-Fu-ed him before, and he wasn’t keen to let it happen again.

At 7:00, HRH headed down to the hall and were shocked to see that the tables had all been joined to make one huge long table. Most of the school were there, and HRH joined the hubbub.
“I wonder who is teaching it? I heard that Shurang might be.” Hayley suggested. “You mean the guy you said was guarding the philosopher’s pizza shapes? Whatever that is.” Hewitt asked.
“Yeah.”
“Well as long as it isn’t…” Roger began, but ended in a groan, as professor HeatStroke stood on the table.
“Welcome everybody, except you Hewitt, you’re not welcome here. But I’ll let you stay, just this once. Now, as you all know, I am professor HeatStroke. Before we begin, I would like to vent my frustration at the people who say my name with a capital H, but not a capital S. I would like you to meet my assistant, professor Snerpert. He told me he knows a little about magical Kung-Fu-ing. I would like you all to watch us as we demonstrate.” The two professors took out their wands. “First we stand in a stance of our choice…” at this, professor HeatStroke stood in a stance that resembled a koala wonderfully (he looked asleep). They counted to three, and fast as a blink, professor Snerpert leapt at professor HeatStroke. While in the air, he shouted, “Nihil Virga!” HeatStroke’s wand flew out of her hand, and Snerpert landed in front of him. Snerpert kicked HeatStroke and she went flying. She scrambled up, and couldn’t find her wand.
“Well, good work everyone. Now, divide into pairs, and attack each other.” She said and began searching for her wand. Hewitt and Roger went together. Hewitt used the koala stance, and Roger used the sleeping stance (they were both exactly the same). On the count of three, Hewitt leapt in the air and shouted the disarmer. Roger cartwheeled to the right, as time slowed; the spell went slowly past Roger. He shot a spell at Hewitt which caught him on the chest as time sped up. Roger then stunned Hewitt as he was unarmed.
“Well, that was pathetic.” HeatStroke said. I will choose two volunteers. You, Parkinson, and you Nausae. Get up here. If you two don’t want to fight, then say so, and you don’t have to.” HeatStroke said.
“I don’t want to” Hewitt said.
“Tough. Now then Hewitt, when he attacks you jump to the left and shoot a spell back. Kapish?” on the count of three, Odor shouted,
“Labae serpenae.” A snake shot from his wand and charged at Hewitt.
“Back Off!” Hewitt yelled. To his surprise, the snake backed off. Again, Hewitt was surprised that everybody was looking strangely at him.

After the club meeting ended, HRH headed back to the common room. “You’re a Garlimouth. Why didn’t you tell us?” Roger demanded.
“I’m a what?” Hewitt asked.
“A Garlimouth. You can talk to snakes.”
“So? Who cares?” Hewitt retorted.
“Everyone. Trewartha couldn’t talk to snakes, so everyone is going to think that you’re his great great great great great great great great great great grandson or something.” Hayley responded.
“How does that work?” Hewitt asked.
“How am I meant to know, I didn’t write this book.” She fumed.
“Never mind her, first Findit game is coming up tomorrow remember? Pity Trewartha got those new brooms. Backlash 601’s. But we should beat them anyway. Guess who their new centre is.” Roger said.
“Odor…” Hewitt replied.
“Yeah, it’ll be so sweet to beat him at what he reckons that he is absolutely, positively perfect at. Well, we had better get prepared for next chapter. It will have the exciting game in it.

Chapter 6
Davy vs. Trewartha

It had been not very long, before an exciting babble broke out. It was the first Findit game of the season, and it was going to be a good one. Everybody congregated at the pitch, and watched the sky expectantly. The goals were already up, and the teams approached the sky.

Hewitt and Odor faced each other in the middle of the pitch. Waiting for the whistle. There it was! Hewitt raced at the ball, but Odor beat him to it. He passed long to his striker, but the ball was stolen from him but Felix. Felix passed the ball to Hewitt, who in turn passed it to Anna Angelstine. She took the ball, faked a shot, deceived the keeper, prepared to shoot again, but the ball was stolen from her. The player sent the ball to the other end of the pitch to the striker, who took the ball and scored.
Hewitt took the ball from the centre and sped away across the pitch. Odor, chased him, but Hewitt was too far in front. He drew a defender, hit the ball over their heads, dove under them, took the ball, shot, and scored. The Davy supporters went crazy.
Hewitt again took the ball from the centre. This time though, he passed long to Anna. The pass though, was intercepted and the ball was passed long to the Trewartha striker. The Striker shot, but the goals had moved, and the shot missed. Cood gathered the ball, and sent it to Felix, who passed to Grant, who passed to Hewitt, back to Felix, over to Grant and long to Anna who shot and scored. The Midgets had hit the lead. Unfortunately, a Trewartha player had hit the timer very high in the air, so the game had a bit of time to go.
Odor beat Hewitt to the ball but was tackled instantly by Grant, who passed to Anna, who passed to Hewitt, but just as Hewitt was about to shoot, a club hit him in the back of the head. He had a penalty shot.
Hewitt took the ball, he hit it into the air, it came down, and Hewitt shot. Saved. The Trewartha keeper had managed to save the penalty, which delighted the Trewartha fans. The keeper passed long to Odor, who faked a shot left, faked flying left, shot, and scored. The scores were tied again. The Timer was steadily approaching the ground.
Odor took the ball from the centre again, he shot a long shot from the centre of the ground, but the shot was saved. Cood passed to Hewitt who had the ball stolen from him. The Trewartha player took the ball, and shot. It went in and the Giant Ants were back in the lead.
Hewitt took the ball and veered backwards to some space. He looked down and saw the timer just about on the ground. He passed long to Anna, who glanced the ball in for goal. The scores were tied with seconds to go.
Odor took the ball from the centre and charged into Hewitt. It was called a foul, and Hewitt had a penalty. The timer went, so Hewitt had the last play. He had to score to win. He lined up the goals, sweat dripping from his forehead and falling all the way to the ground. He shot. Time slowed, as the camera followed the ball through the air (it’s obvious what’s going to happen here, so just be patient.) the camera zoomed out, and viewed the ball going to the top left corner. The keeper dove, but as time sped up again, the ball sailed past him and went into the net. The Midgets had won (how predictable)!
