s our bus zigzagged down the mountainside on serpentine roads, we were
thankful for our travelling companions, 150,000 ruler-sized pieces of
bamboo chopstick blanks. These were resting on the floor of the bus in
20 large bags, and provided some extra weight with which to better hug
the road on the hairpin turns. We were on our way back to the city
after living out one of our expectations of China.
childhood visions
of mountainside rice paddies rising to the sky while straw-hatted
locals tended their livelihood weren’t dreams at all as we walked on
stone paths through their terraces and perched wooden villages.
We realized then that China really exceeded any preconceived notions
we had of this country. There is so much diversity in people,
landscape, culture, and transportation, that it was only on the 6th
week that we finally saw stereotypical China scenery.

big country to be our favorite destination on our journey so far.
It would be impossible (and maybe too voluminous) to describe all that
we have seen and experienced. Instead, we have just a few stories to
share. You’ll have to wait for the book to hear it all!
