e left for the Philippines (and took Val with us) right after Christmas. When we returned, we had the opportunity to hang out and experience life in Hong Kong a bit longer. This place seems to run in high gear ALL THE TIME! It was fun to be in the busy-ness of it all, and yet to not be a part of it. Despite this non-stop perception, there are still quiet parks to be found and sleepy fishing villages to find refuge.
e found some things to be just like China (vying for your own personal space on a crowded street), and other things completely different, (like actually enforcing the maximum capacity on a city bus). Certainly, the infrastructure and public services of this small, more easily manageable place far surpassed what we'd experienced anywhere else. At one point, Val commented on the condition of an older, non-air conditioned bus we had boarded when Dave piped up, "This is nicer than any bus we rode in China."
n the end, we found the most enjoyment out of just visiting with friends. Long dinners and good conversations with Val and her roommate, Erin, made it difficult to leave. As we considered Hong Kong the midpoint of our journey, we realized how quickly time passes. So, venture on we must!
