Heritage Costume

Appaloosa Horse Club Rule Book states: to be judged on authenticity of trappings and equipment, attire of exhibitor, markings, and colorful qualities of horse-the overall picture and presentation to be considered.

Since the Appaloosa is rich in history, this class is designed to vividly portray some of this history. Costumes other than NAtive American costumes may be used. The costumes may depict the various stages of Appaloosa history such as Chinese emperors, kings, nobles, Spanish conquistadores, fur trappers, buffalo hunters, missionaries, etc.

There the guidelines. Carla told me that you can make a story. Since the spotted horses are heavenly, I'm probably gonna say I'm the Emperor's daughter and could ride these heavenly horses. Now some research and some money and a hell of lot of time and anguish and there will be a costume.

I give this about a year to make. I want it to be so kick ass I could go to the World Show and do Open Heritage. Glory and dreams. :)

Two main parts of the costume. The Horse part and then the Human part. I think both are gonna be equally tough.

Tang Dynasty

Horse

I've looked a lot online to find Chinese horse scultures, paintings, and other things. It's hard because sometimes the picture doestn's how a lot of detail. The hardest part is probably going to be a saddle.

    Human

I have yet to find woman pictures of the Han Dynasty.
From this website http://library.thinkquest.org/20443/embroidery.html, I found out that they used a stitch called chain stitch in the Han Dynasty. It's more than likely I'll hand stitch most of the costume.
Not sure if I'm actually going to use silk, since it is expensive. I'm gonna probably have to learn how to embroider.
