Info on Dragon Ball Z
Dragon Ball Z is Action, and fighting based,
the main characters are Son Goku, Prince Vegita,
Son Gohan, Piccolo and Trunks (along with the
rest of the Z gang, who are not quite as significant
to the storyline, but are major parts of the series)
The whole character set up looks like this:

Goku
Name: Son Goku
Race: Sayjin
Final Form: Ssj 3 (ssj 4 in GT)
Details: sent to destroy earth, but got hit on his head in the landing, and became the saviour of the planet on several occasions. He was trained by Master Rochi, and Piccolo (after fighting him). Finaly to be trained by North Kai (including Bubbles and Gregory). He reached super sayjin before anyone else, and reached up to 4th in GT, the final form (unlike what many think). He is married to chi-chi, and has 2 children, Gohan, and Goten. he also *kind of* saved the namek planet -by getting them off, and killing freezer- Mostly (along with the planet). Fused with Vegeta to make Veggito and Gogeta.
Vegeta
Name:(Prince) Vegeta
Race: Sayjin
Final Form: Ssj 3 (4 in GT, with use of Rage Amplifier - Built by Bulma)
Details: Vegita is the Prince of the Sayjin Race. He was sent, along with Nappa, to finnish the job that Goku did not complete (Destroy Earth). Once he is defeated by Goku's Kao-Kahn moves, and a Soul Bomb (Reflected onto him by Gohan) he is taken in by Bulma, and the end up together (almost as the "odd couple") and fights along side Goku, only to challenge him, and to try and better him. Vegita has one child: Trunks. Vegeta fused with Goku to make Veggito, and Gogeta. Vegita Also turns into an Ozroo.
Young Gohan
Name: Son Gohan
Race: Sajin
Final Form: Ssj 2
Details: Son of Goku, and is powerful like his father. He supasses Vegita during the Cell saga, but is soon taken back over in terms of power. Trained by Piccolo, and Goku (in the Time Chamber). He Defeated Cell thanks to Gokus training, and sacrafice. Fused with Trunks to make Gotenks, to try and defeat Buu.
Trunks
Name: Trunks
Race: Sayjin
Final Form: Weak form of Ssj 3
Details: Son of Vegeta, is powerful and arogant, like his father. He fuses with Gohan to make Gotenks, as an attempt to defeat Buu. Nothing else happens with Trunks, except his guest appearence as "Future Trunks" in the Android/Cell Saga, where he defeats the supprisingly un-defeated Freezer, and Warns Goku and the others of what is going to happen.
