Annulean, the Learned One, is lord of all knowledge, intelligence,
and wisdom. He appears in artwork and texts as an old gnarled gray-haired
man with glasses perched on the end of a thin wiry nose. He is always
depicted reading or writing. His features bear close resemblance to
humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and gnomes alike as he has slightly
pointed ears like an elf, but is short and stocky, like a dwarf. His
feet are furry like a halfling's and his eyes are bright with the
intensity of a gnome's.
Annulean is said to be the recorder of time since time began. He
chronicled the many destructions and births of new worlds and universes.
He was present when the planes were born for the other gods to inhabit.
It is also said that he knows of the ancient gods that no longer look
upon the world of Torin and that he had played a small part in their
turning away from the world. All that is written by the clergy or
followers of Annulean is the truth in one form or another, however
"stretched" it may be.
Annulean's followers live for knowledge and are responsible for founding
of the schools, universities, and learning institutions in many of
major cities within the world. A common saying among his followers
is, "A man's mind that lies fallow is open to a bleak and uneventful
future."
Wizards and sages, in particular, worship Annulean for passing on
the ability to learn and hold knowledge in the form of writing and
the spoken word.
