"Here you are" said F'lnor as he handed the rideing straps to Z'ay. Z'ay nodded as slipped the straps onto his large dragon. "That tickles" protested Timath as he twitched under the straps. "Done" said Z'ay as he finished with the straps and mounted Timath. "Nice timing. Now here is your dragonrider badge of Sidra Weyr" said F'lnor as he handed them the badge. "Now that your dragon is and adult you may sign you and your dragon up for mating flights and join the wings or you could leave and join another Weyr" finished F'lnor as he waited for a reply. "I think that we would both like to stay at Sidra Weyr" replied Z'ay. "Good, now that you have decided you may do as you please and do what you think will help the Weyr" said F'lnor as he walked away. "So Timath, what would you like to do now that your an adult?" asked Z'ay. But before Timath could answer Nau appeared from between. "I think that we should go suprise your family but before we leave can we get some food for I'm hungry and so is Nau" said Timath. Z'ay nodded and mounted Timath with Nau on his shoulder. "Timath, to the kitchens" cried Z'ay as Timath bugled and then leapt into the air and went between. Several seconds later they appeared infront of the kitchens, Z'ay slipped from the straps and losened the ones still on Timath so that he could hunt freely. Z'ay walked into the room and grabbed several slices of meat and a sweetroll or two, then he grabbed a steaming cup of klah and walked to the balcony where riders could eat and watch there dragons. When he sat down he saw that he wasn't the only rider eating, for there was another rider sleeping at the table. Z'ay shook his head as he took his seat and began to eat. Suddenly there was a large commotion outside, for many people began to gather at the windows. "You there, what's going on?" asked Z'ay to anyone that would listen. "Some bronze is getting ganged up on by all the browns and blues at the feeding grounds" answered a weyrbrat as they bounced up and down trying to see. "Timath!" shouted Z'ay as he shoved his way through the people to the front of the window to see his bond standing over a large runner snapping at several brown and blue dragons that were steadily advancing. "That's my dragon, where are their riders. Get them to call their dragons off" cried Z'ay as he heard a muffled laughter from behind him. The crowd quickly disappeared to show a rough looking bunch men, by their badges on their arms they were the dragon's riders. "Hey, call you're dragons off" pleaded Z'ay as the riders just stared. The one who seemed to be the leader of the groupd stood up and smerked. "No" was all he said. "Look, call your dragons off before they get seriously hurt" replied Z'ay as his face flushed. "Just because your dragons color is higher than their's doesn't mean junk" spat the blue rider. "Color has nothing to do with it, I am Wingthird of the Fiaccola Wing, and Timath has been trained to fight threat most effectivly and if threatened he might use those skills to defend his life" replied Z'ay as he crossed his arms to show his wing badge. "So what if your dragon can fight, don't mean you can" cried the rider as he reared his arm back and lurched at Z'ay. Despite the swings thrown at Z'ay everyone of them he dodged, and with one swift kick he sent the man flying; crashing into the nearby table. Quickly the rest of the riders stood up, knowing that he could take they he bolted out of the kitchens. When he reached the outside, a dark shape loomed over him. He continued to run and was quickly picked up by Timath, he climbed from the dragon's claws and into the sadle staps. "The Weyrleader wont like this" said Timath as they flew from the Weyr. "Well we have an excuse" replied Z'ay as he felt Nau tugging at his sleeve. "Now that thats over with, Nau wants to go back to your familys hold and I would like to see it for once insted of hearing it from Nau" said Timath. "Allright, I think that they would be suprised at what color you are for I led them to beleve that I impressed a blue but never really told them that I impressed a bronze" said Z'ay as he picked Nau up from the straps and set him on his shoulder. "Are you ashamed that I chose to impress you?" asked Timath. "No, I'm glad that we impressed but I wanted it to be a suprise for them to see you" replied Z'ay. Timath nodded and he was about to launch into the air. When he saw that Z'ay was ready he launched into the air climbing higher and higher in to sky, when they were high Z'ay thought hard about his family's hold and as he thought Timath went between and appeared a little away from the hold. "Land here and when I tell you do one of you fancy entrances for the familys to see you" said Z'ay as he got off of Timath and began walking to the hold. "Since the beach is right there I'm going to do my best water entrance" said Timath as he glided overhead and dove into the water near the hold. Z'ay smiled and walked up to the door, he knocked twice and waited for them to answer. After a few minutes nobody answered and Z'ay was about to knock again when he heard a small voice say. "Who is it?" asked Nira through the door. "I can't beleive that you don't remember your dragonrider brother. Well if you don't remember me then all just leave" said Z'ay as he turned and began to walk away. "Wait" shouted Nira as she flung open the door and ran out almost knocking Z'ay over as she grabbed his waist. "Don't go, I didn't know that it was you" said Nira as her blue flew out to see why the door was open. "Nira I've told you time from time not to leave the door open" said Gya but when she saw Z'ay standing outside the hold her face brightened. "Gyer come quick Zayra is home" said Gya as she raced out the door to see Z'ay. When she was halfway to Z'ay, Gyer came running out. When he reached Z'ay he said. "Zayra, I knew youd be home soon" said Gyer. "Dad, I impressed. I'm called Z'ay now" protested Z'ay. "So where is that blue of your?" asked Gya. "I'll call him right know" said Z'ay as he called Timath to come then. "Well where is he?" asked Nira. "He's coming" said Z'ay as he began to run for one of the near by trees. The family was all wondering why Z'ay ran under a tree when they heard the sound of water coming quickly so they followed Z'ay under the tree and was looking at the ocean to see what would happen. Just then Timath lept from the water in his best pose showering everything with water. The family's eyes widdened when they saw Z'ay approach the bronze since they all thought that he had impressed a blue. "Mom look at his face, where his nose is it's a dark bronze but when you go to the back of his head it's a light bronze and look his whole body is like that" said Nira as she was looking over the bronze. "Come in, there is so much you need to tell us" said Gya she she led Z'ay into the hold. When night had fallen Timath and Nau were both getting tired so Z'ay said his goodbyes and mounted Timath and launched into the air. When they were clear of of trees they went between and appeared at the weyr, Nau flew to his perch in the weyr and was fast asleep. When Timath had the riding straps taken off he curled up and went to sleep, Z'ay sent the gear by the firestone and went up the stairs to his room. He slipped off his hard riding gear and into his night cloths and was soon asleep. *** The turns past and the threadfall battles began to take their toll on the two, Timath now had perminant holes in the membrane of his wings and Z'ay now had several light burns on both of his arms. Z'ay sighed heaviliy as he walked into his weyr, Timath, who was taking a nap, awoke with his approach. "My bond" started Z'ay as he placed his hand on the claw of the bronze. "I have ome bad news about Sidra, the Weyr is being disbanded". "Ah, how could such a thing happen?" asked the bronze as he bolted up. "I'm not sure, but we need to leave" replied Z'ay as he mounted his bonded, with low heads the two left their weyr and rose into the air. They had been traveling for weeks before they spotted a Weyr, they landed near and waited till the watchers would allow them to enter. It wasn't a long wait, but was uncommon to make someone of their rank to wait. "I've asked around and no one here has heard of Sidra, and this Weyr is known as Sunstone Weyr. They have given us permission to stay a while, but when the watchers were telling me this. They don't want us to stay. Oh and they've granted a weyr for our use" said Timath as they walked through the new land, they then setteled down when they found the weyr. During the night, Z'ay had stayed up late. He had his vest and long shirt that held his badges on his lap, and in one had was a thin, sharp blade. With it, he gently plucked away all the badges except the one that shown he was a bronze rider. He then removed his boot, and cut a small fold in the lining and gently slid the badges into the boot; he then sew it back together. As he placed the boot back on, he heard a noise outside the weyr. As he stepped outside the weyr, he saw a young woman. She seemed different, yet he could figure out what it was. "Forgive my staring, but it's been a while since I saw another person" said Z'ay as she nodded. "That's quite alright, I am Saes of Sunstone Weyr. My dragon ,Sajjath, has informed me that you are new arrivals" she said. "Your dragon is correct, we arrived just a while ago and seek approvance into joing this Weyr" replied Z'ay as he felt Timath mumor in his mind. "I see, and I appologize but I must now leave" said Saes with a nod of her head, she then disappeared into the night with such a grace that Z'ay wondered if she had really been there. He then returned to Timath and sat down next to him, without opening an eye the bronze spoke to him. "The gold is rising soon, and I wish to participate in her flight" said Timath as Z'ay nodded. He approved of his bonds decision and wished him luck. He then laid against the side of the bronze, as he drifted off. |
