1ST ANNUAL SANTA BARBARA PEOPLES MARCH FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Revisit a historic day in Santa Barbara history with the film "1st Annual Santa Barbara Peoples March for Economic Justice" featuring Julia Butterfly Hill produced by Stu Shulman & Dennis Proffitt for Golden Eagle Video.
Read what Julia Butterfly Hill had to say about the film!!
"Thanks again for sending along the "People's March for Economic Justice" DVD. What a powerful and inspiring event!
Julia and I had a chance to review it today. We like the way you captured the energy of the march and helped put the lives of the farmworkers into such vivid context.
Their story, and the narrative covering the plight of workers generally, was nicely interwoven with the speakers' presentations.
We'll be sure to let people know about it who are looking for great videos on grassroots activism and the connections between environmental and social/economic issues.
Keep up the great work -- and all the best to you and yours! Toward peace and ecological community."
- Julia, Aaron and the staff of Circle of Life

The documentary is great. While seeing it I felt that I was actively participating in the march. It reminded me of the old days of activism in my country during the dictatorial regime in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Julia Butterfly is very charismatic. I did not know anything about her before.
-Vera Lucia Moura M.D. (Intergrative Medicine) Ann Arbor,MI.

Very Inspiring... "What I Loved most was to see so many Young People caring about Economic Justice. It reminded me of the 1960's and 1970's. Julia Butterfly Hill was inspiring as were all the speakers. I had never seen her in person before. Some of the filming was a bit jerky, but that added to the authenticity. I liked the working in of the eagle plus other aspects of the film like the workers in the field. You should be proud of your good work!" Anne Bagley/Artist - Ann Arbor MI

"The film captures the passionate energy of the Santa Barbara community standing up for their constitutional rights with rousing chants, colorful banners and colorfully dressed protestors giving the film a 60's vibe." Jill Frandsen/Co-Director of S.B.-G.E.Free/Owner of Firehorse Flowers - Santa Barbara CA

With the recent disaster in the Gulf region, it only further illustrates the need for Economic Justice and the gap that still exists between rich and poor in this country.
It has gotten much, much, much (ad nauseum) worse since the film was made...and is more important today than in 2001 when the 1st Peoples March happened...the voice was drowned out by a sea of lies and deceptions perpetrated by our government which resulted in an ever widening gap in our society between the haves and the have nots. Many people who have jobs & families cannot support themselves under these current conditions and we are being fleeced as a society.
Look at gas prices, food prices, home prices...pretty much across the board. Why does an industry such as the oil industry capitalize on the pain & suffering of a nation following a tragedy such as Katrina? How can prices increase so dramatically in such a short period of time hurting our nation at a critical moment?
The only answer is government complicity towards the act or crime of maximizing profits at a time when we need compassion and help. With the entire nation reaching deep into its pockets, it is a shame and travesty that our government and the oil industry would think more about their bottom line than the human factor...it is a dire sign of our times and one that should be heeded and taken as a serious threat to our nations security...Homeland security my ass!!
Our biggest threat is right here at home...we are being fleeced right under our noses. The greedy politicians have filled their pockets with the blood, sweat & tears of our people for far too long...they have done a disservice to us all by allowing this conduct to go on. Nothing will change until our government changes.
This film means more now than it ever did! In fact, it needs to be seen & heard so that other people will be motivated to get involved and make the changes that our country needs in order to be healthy & survive the damage that has been done to our nation.
While it is true that terrorism must be stamped out whenever possible, what good will it be to have won that victory if our nation is too economically or globally divided to co-exist peacefully with ourselves and the rest of the World. We must change that perception and rejoin and re-establish the Global Community.
All peoples of all nations want the same things...a home and a healthy family. That is in simple terms of course....but it is a basic idealistic principle. Take greed and ambition out of the mix...and it is a much clearer picture for the World to see.
