INDEPENDENT MEDIA CENTER PRODUCERS RALLY TO MAKE PEOPLE'S VOICES HEARD, DOCUMENTING THE ONGOING AND GROWING CITIZEN'S CHALLENGE TO UNACCOUNTABLE CORPORATE GLOBALIZATION
BREAKING THE BANK: A Challenge to the IMF/World Bank
Following on the heals of the Seattle victory that stopped the World Trade Organization ministerial meeting in it's "fast" tracks, over 30,000 converged on Washington DC to challenge the International Monetary Fund and World Bank at their meeting on April 16-17.
Once again, independent video makers, radio producers, journalists and activists are rallying under the common goal of social and economic justice to challenge the IMF/World Bank's pro-corporate policies.
In an effort to reclaim media democracy, the Independent Media Center will make public the voices and concerns of tens of thousands from all over the world who gathered in Washington. Activist voices will be heard uncensored thanks to an April 21st satellite telecast across the U.S., complimenting on the spot, independent media coverage provided in print, audio and video on the web (at http://www.indymedia.org).
Deep Dish TV in association with The Independent Media Center-DC and Free Speech TV plan to distribute television programming directly from Washington events where activists representing labor, the environment, civil society, international law, and indigenous nations converged to hold counter events and stage demonstrations.
The producers of "Showdown in Seattle" including Big Noise Films, Changing America, Downtown Community TV, Headwaters Action Video Collective, Paper Tiger TV, Videoactive and Whispered Media and dozens of others will participate in this alternative pool coverage to bring the messages from DC to the rest of the world.
The televised coverage will be provided on April 21st as four thirty minute programs. The series will consist of two 30-minute programs covering Washington events and two 30-minute pre-produced programs focusing on specific global issues as they relate to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Because these important voices, opinions and points of view are likely to
never be seen or heard in commercial mainstream media, Public Access cable
TV centers are encouraged to sponsor and schedule this programming on their
local access channels. Local PBS affiliates are
also requested to run the series in its entirety. The series is provided
free of charge to Public Television and Access stations, and may be
rebroadcast multiple times.
