Padre Cristián Castañeda

This month we feature Padre Cristián Castañeda who has been a flying father with Olé for over 12 years. He's our HAJJ advisor for this year's Olé charters to Mecca. Padre "El Niño de Concepcion del Oro" Castañeda came to our airline after serving as pastor of the Terminal 2 Chapel at Benito Juarez Airport (MEX) in Mexico City. He received a master of theology at the University of Guadalajara with major studies in avionics technology. He's certified to fly 737s during emergencies. St. Exupery would be proud!

Fashioned after the "Jump onboard the Southwest Airlines "Adopt-A-Pilot Program" and the highly-successful "Jump aboard the Delta Adopt-A-Stewardess Program", Olé Airlines has rolled out its "Adopt-A-Sky Marshal Program" in response to public demand.

Being a Sky Marshal is a lonely profession often without much recognition and praise. In an attempt to alleviate high-altitude stress and burn-out, we've decided to link these valuable Sky Marshals with junior law enforcement students and have them share their experiences and skills.

"Adopt-A-Sky Marshal Program" is a four-week curriculum that packs policing, crime science, racial profiling, marksmanship, anti-terrorist tactics and skyjacking prevention into a sky's-the-limit educational adventure!

Developed primarily for college and undergraduate university students, the program unites law enforcement and CSI school classes with Olé Airlines Sky Marshals to explore transportation security, forensic science and much more.

For four weeks, students track their adopted sky marshal's journey and complete curriculum developed in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institute's National Air and Space Museum, the National Association of Law Enforcement Professors, the North American Police Academy Association, and other security specialists. Students apply these subjects to aviation activities, made meaningful by their interaction with a real air marshal.

Adopt-A-Sky Marshal Online has been created for Internet use by classes everywhere. Our "virtual air marshal" supplies all the "real world" knowledge needed to complete this program. Use his information along with the work pages we've posted to complete this one-of-a-kind program. After the workbook exercises have been completed, students are asked to play virtual games such as "Friend or Foe? Shooting the Bad Dudes!" The sky is the limit. Welcome aboard!

Although the students will never learn the true identity of their adopted Sky Marshal "buddies"(for security reasons), they will benefit from the job-proven techniques of these immensely-skilled and courageous professionals who risk their lives to keep our skies safe one flight at a time.
