BODY PUMP is the original barbell class. Developed in New Zealand in 1990, BODY PUMP has become the biggest class in thousands of clubs all over the world. And now, thanks to The STEP Company and Les Mills International, it's at Gold’s Gym Douglasville & Marietta. But be warned ...IT WILL CHANGE THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY.

BODY PUMP is designed to work your whole body using barbells with adjustable weights to highly motivating music. Beginning with a general warm up, participants are led through a series of exercises including squats, presses, lifts, and curls. The focus is on correct lifting technique using light to moderate weights and high repetitions. You don't get big. Just toned and strong.

Starting with just a 3 lb bar, people of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from BODY PUMP. As you progress, simply add weights to the barbell. BODY PUMP will improve your fat burning ability and help build lean muscle, strength, and endurance. Quite simply, it's the fastest way in the universe to get in shape.

What are the benefits of BODY PUMP?

In a BODYPUMP workout you go through all of the basic exercises including bench press, bicep curls, squats, upright rows, triceps extensions, etc. The resulting benefits include an increase in lean muscle mass - thus improving physical appearance. This is further enhanced through fat loss as a result of calorie expenditure during exercise and an increase in metabolic rate from increased lean muscle tissue.

Benefits of resistance training include:

Improved muscle strength and endurance.
Increased bone density - preventative measure for osteoporosis.
Increased fat burning ability.
Promotion of muscle balance and postural stability throughout the body.
Increased tendon and ligament strength.
A memorable workout that leaves you feeling great.

Because BODYPUMP increases endurance, it can also improve performance in many sports and other daily activities.

How many times a week can I participate in BODYPUMP?

BODYPUMP is recommended as part of a balanced exercise program. BODYPUMP should be limited to 2 - 3 times per week with a minimum of 48 hours of recovery during the first 12 weeks until a muscular base has been established.

Is BODYPUMP safe for pregnant women?

As with all exercises during pregnancy consult your physician before beginning. Caution should be exerted because of the potential effects of exercise on the growing baby and on the mother. Although BODYPUMP is not the most appropriate exercise for the pregnant exerciser, if a healthy pregnant exerciser has been previously using BODYPUMP they may continue to do so by modifying exercise and intensity to their doctor's approval.
