Frequently Answered Questions
- Why should I participate in a group exercise class?
The group exercise program at Gold’s Gym Douglasville and Marietta offers programs that promise a simple, fun, and result oriented workout. With over 50 classes a week at both gyms, members have the great opportunity to get resistance/strength training, cardiovascular (fat-burning) workout, flexibility exercises and be entertained by a group of highly motivating and enthusiastic professionals.
- Do I have to make a reservation to participate in a class?
All the classes on the group exercise schedule are included in your membership and can be attended at anytime. No reservations are needed!
- Can I bring a friend to class with me?
Bringing a guest a class is the best way to introduce them to the gym! On the back of the group exercise schedule and at the free guest pass page of this site, there is a guest pass for you to use!
- I am a beginner; what classes can I start with?
The unique aspect of group exercise is that all classes on the schedule are suitable to the beginner! Each class has built in levels of intensity that you can alter to meet your current fitness level! In addition, each instructor has been trained on how to offer modifications for different member needs. If it is your first time taking a class, let your instructor know that you are new, so they can give you options and offer you personalized instruction prior to class!
- What should I wear?
Clothing depends on your own personal comfort. We recommend clothing that you can move in freely. Most participants wear t-shirts and shorts. Gold’s Gym also sells a line of exercise clothing in the pro-shop area. We highly recommend a supportive shoe. If you are engaging in a wide variety of activities, a cross-training shoe will meet your needs.
- What are the benefits of BODY PUMP?
In a BODYPUMP workout you go through all of the basic exercises including bench press, bicep curls, squats, upright rows, triceps extensions, etc. The resulting benefits include an increase in lean muscle mass - thus improving physical appearance. This is further enhanced through fat loss as a result of calorie expenditure during exercise and an increase in metabolic rate from increased lean muscle tissue.
Benefits of resistance training include:
- Improved muscle strength and endurance.
- Increased bone density - preventative measure for osteoporosis.
- Increased fat burning ability.
- Promotion of muscle balance and postural stability throughout the body.
- Increased tendon and ligament strength.
- A memorable workout that leaves you feeling great.
Because BODYPUMP increases endurance, it can also improve performance in many sports and other daily activities.
- How many times a week can I participate in BODYPUMP?
BODYPUMP is recommended as part of a balanced exercise program. BODYPUMP should be limited to 2 - 3 times per week with a minimum of 48 hours of recovery during the first 12 weeks until a muscular base has been established. If you do not have a lot of time, there is a 45 minute BODYPUMP class.
- Is BODYPUMP safe for pregnant women?
As with all exercises during pregnancy consult your physician before beginning. Caution should be exerted because of the potential effects of exercise on the growing baby and on the mother. Although BODYPUMP is not the most appropriate exercise for the pregnant exerciser, if a healthy pregnant exerciser has been previously using BODYPUMP they may continue to do so by modifying exercise and intensity to their doctor's approval.
