INSTRUCTOR'S BIO'S
Leslie Austin has been a group fitness instructor
for 12 years. For the past 6 years she has been the group exercise
director for Gold's Gym of Douglasville and for the past 1 1/2 years she has
added to her responsibilities, the management of the group exercise program at
Gold's Gym of Marietta. Leslie is certified by the Aerobic and Fitness
Association of America (AFAA), The American Council on Exercise (ACE), The
Arthritis Foundation of Georgia for Aquatic Exercise and Body Training Systems
as a certified Body Pump instructor. She has completed certification
training for Body Flow, RPM, and Body Attack instructor. In 1997, she was
Gold's Gym Aerobic Instructor of the Year and in 1999, she was Gold's Gym Group Exercise
Instructor of the Year. During 2000, she was certified as a Personal
Trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Also in 2000, she was
selected as Gold's Gym Group Exercise Instructor of the Year, Gold's Gym Body
Pump Instructor of the Year and received the 2000 Best Performer Award and in
September 2000, Leslie received from Moms in Motion her certification to
instruct Pre and Post Natal exercise classes. In addition, she
holds a BA in Communication/Marketing and a Masters of Education from West
Georgia University.
Leslie's philosophy on fitness is simply "fun, fit, forever", which translated means the following: exercise has to be fun, you must strive for physical fitness and should make it part of your life forever. Leslie lives in Douglasville with her husband, Jeff and their 2 children Hannah and Emily.
Aubry Boydstone is a special education teacher
and is currently the competitive cheerleading and Varsity girls track coach
at Lithia Springs High School. In 1986 she was selected as an All-America
high school cheerleader and from 1986 - 1992 she was a professional instructor
for the National Cheerleading Association and was the head instructor for camps
across the South and East coast at several universities. She is currently
certified through Body Training System as a Body Attack instructor.
Dax Derringer has been a fitness professional and counselor with Gold's Gym for
the past four years. He received his NASM (National Academy of Sports
Medicine) personal trainer certification in March of 1998. Dax is also a
certified Body Pump & RPM instructor with Body Training Systems. Dax's
fitness accomplishments include being selected the 1999 Body Pump Instructor of
the Year by his peers. In addition, Dax placed 2nd in the male 20-24 year
old division in the 1999 Nissan Xterra Off Road Triathlon, his first ever.
Also in 1999, Dax finished in the top 15 in the Dream Catcher Mountain Bike
Race.
Amy Farmer holds certifications from the Aerobics
and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). She is certified by Body
Training Systems for Body Flow, RPM and Body Attack. In July 2000, Amy
received her certification as a Personal Trainer from the National Academy of Sports
Medicine and was selected as Gold's Gym Aerobic Instructor of the Year for 2000
and in September 2000 Amy received from Moms in Motion her certification to
instruct Pre and Post Natal exercise classes. Amy lives in
Douglasville with her husband, Mike and their 2 children.
David Fullwood has been physically active all of
his life. A native of Omaha, Ne, he graduated from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Engineering. While at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln he played football. David has completed his Body Pump
certification training and is currently instructing at Gold's Gym of Marietta.
David lives in Marietta with his wife Jean and
their 3 children Alexia, Autumn, and Evan.
Jean Fullwood has been a
group fitness instructor with Gold's Gym since 1998. She received her Body
Pump certification in 1999 and has finished the certification program for Body
Attack. Jean is an active and successful female athlete and has finished
in the top 5 in several 10k races. Jean lives in Marietta with her
husband, David, and their three children, Alexia, Autumn and Evan.
Denise Johnston, a native of Florida, lives in
Douglasville with her husband, David and their 3 children, Nina, Kelly and
Jill. In 1991 she received her certification as a group fitness instructor
from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Since then she has
added certifications from the Aquatic Exercise Association, the Arthritis
Foundation of Georgia and RPM, Body Pump and Body Flow from Body Training
Systems and has received her personal trainer certification through the National
College of Sports Medicine in June of 2000 and in September 2000 received from
Moms in Motion her certification to instruct Pre and Post Natal exercise
classes. Denise was selected as Gold's
Gym Aquatic Instructor of the Year for 1999 and 2000 and received Gold's Gym Most Dedicated/Team Player
award for 2000. She also serves on the staff for Sara's City Workout and is a
regional representative for Fitour.
Maggie McDonald came to Gold's Gym from Virginia with 7 years experience as a
group fitness instructor. She holds an aerobic instructor certification,
weight room certification and personal training certification through AFAA
(Aerobics and Fitness Association of America). Maggie is also a certified
Body Pump Instructor and has completed the training program for Body Attack
through Body Training Systems. She was selected to receive the Best
Communicator Award for 2000. Maggie currently lives in Douglasville with
her husband Charlie and their two sons: Samuel(4) and Liam(9
months). Maggie feels no matter how many kids or how old she becomes, she
will always search for the best group fitness experience available. She
says "What makes it easy is being at a gym, like Gold's, with the most
enthusiastic, all guts and glory team players. YAHOO!"
Melissa Payne has been a part of the Gold's Gym
staff since 1998. In addition to her being certified by Body Training
Systems for Body Pump and RPM and The National Academy of Sports Medicine, she
graduated from Jacksonville State University with a BS in Exercise Science and
Wellness and a minor in Physical Education and Recreation. Melissa feels exercise should play a role in
everyone's day to day life and to see results you must be consistent with your
exercise program.
Steve Pacheco was born in March of 1948 in Rhode Island
leaving in 1970 after graduating from Providence College and being commissioned
in the United States Army. A career officer, he remained in active duty for 27
years and retired as a Colonel in the fall of 1996. Soon thereafter, Steve was
employed as a staff trainer, then promoted to Gym Training Director and is now
the Club Manager at the Chapel Hill location.
Steve’s education includes an undergraduate degree in History and two master’s degrees in Psychology, International Relations and Strategic Studies. Since employed with Gold’s Gym, he has attained certification as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor through the national Academy of Sports Medicine and certification credits from numerous fitness and health workshops and seminars. He has accumulated approximately 2000 hours working one-on-one as a personal trainer. Steve is a group exercise instructor having completed the Body Pump certification course and is currently trained and instructs the RPM program.
Steve’s fitness philosophy includes elements of fun, simplicity, and maintaining focus, and an all out pursuit of goals while maintaining intensity. "Where the mind goes, the body follows", "Die young at an old age" and "If you can’t hang, please move out of the way" describe his general fitness outlook If that doesn’t register, then take Steve’s RPM class.
Leslie Pair began teaching group exercise classes in 1985. She was certified in 1990 by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and as a STEP Reebok Instructor. She is a member of the Body Step Program team by Body Training Systems. In addition, Leslie holds a BA in Mass Communications from West Georgia University. She was recently assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Task Force Officer working in the area of Drug Prevention. Leslie left her position with DEA in 1998 to fulfill what she calls "her higher calling" -- a stay-at-home-mom. She still provides contractual training in drug prevention for students, parents and companies. Leslie lives in Austell with her husband Rex, and her two daughters, Katie (6) and Makenzee (2).
Charlie Saboura is a certified aerobic instructor with AFAA and a certified step instructor through Reebok. Charlie is also a certified Body Pump instructor through Body Training Systems and was selected as Gold's Gym Aerobic Instructor of the Year for 1999. He has a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science with a minor in Nutrition Science and a Doctorate in Chiropractic. He is certified in physiotherapy and specializes in sports injuries. He has a private chiropractic practice at the Gold's Gym in Marietta. Charlie believes that fitness is not a goal, but a way of life.
Jimmy Schieres is a native of Cobb County. He moved to Douglasville in 1989 and
graduated from Douglas County High School where he played football and wrestled.
After graduation, Jimmy joined the United States Marine Corp and attended boot
camp in Parris Island, SC. After boot camp he was stationed at Camp Pendleton,
California serving in a Special Operations Unit for a four-year tour. He began
working at Gold’s Gym in 1997 as a front desk clerk and was promoted to office
manager for the club. Jimmy holds a Body Pump Certification and has completed
the RPM certification program through Body Training Systems. Jimmy says that he
loves to push his classes and he thrives off the feedback from his class when
they are getting the most out of the workout.
Kim Straton-Reed has been on the group exercise team with Gold’s Gym since
1992. She is a certified aerobic instructor through the American Aerobics &
Fitness Association of America. In addition, she has completed the certification
training for Body Pump program through Body Training Systems. Kim also has an
expanded role at the Douglasville facility as a full-time sales counselor.
Ginger Stratton has been
a certified aerobics instructor since 1992 with New Life Aerobics. Since
then she has received her certification in Body Flow and Body Pump. She is
the Body Flow team captain and oversees the quality of the program and the
training of instructors. Ginger was selected as the 2000 Gold's Gym Body
Flow Instructor of the Year. Ginger's talents began at age 6 when she became
involved in dance. She has participated in the Kennesaw Dance Ensemble and
as a Rich's singer and dancer in the Lighting of the Great Tree downtown.
In addition to her fitness career, she instructors jazz and tap dance in
Marietta. Ginger lives in Marietta and her husband and two children.
Mary Tidwell has been an
aerobic instructor since 1982 and has been with Gold's Gym since 1986. She obtained a BS
from the University of Georgia in Math Education.
She received her aerobic instructor certification from AFAA (Aerobic Association
of America) in 1988, her Step Instructor certification in 1991and completed
BodyPump training in 2000. Mary
says her goal is to help all Gold's members achieve their personal fitness goals
by offering challenging and fun classes in a relaxed atmosphere which makes
working out the absolute best part of the day. Mary lives in Douglasville
with her husband, Joel, and their three children, Melissa, Travis and Meritt.
