Publications Development of a Multiple Modes Simulator of Rotating Bladed Assemblies for Blade Tip Timing Data Analysis (ISMA 2002, 16-18 September 2002, KLU, Leuven, Belgium)http://www.oocities.org/jongallego/research/150.pdf

Blade Tip-Timing is a promising method for the vibration measurement of rotating bladed assemblies such as those found in turbomachinery. The basis of the method is the measurement of the Time of Arrival (ToA) of the tip of a vibrating blade in front of a stationary optical or magnetic probe. By comparing the actual ToA to the ToA of the blade if it had not been vibrating, the blade tip displacement can be obtained. The ToA data then need to be analysed so that the frequency and amplitude of vibration can be identified. The current research is focusing on the problems of synchronous resonance of the assembly and multiple simultaneously occurring resonances. The work is concerned with the validation of existing analysis methods and the formulation and validation of new analysis methods. The project combines analytical and experimental work. The project is being set up as an EngD research programme, funded and supported by Rolls-Royce plc.
