Koh Samui
is the third largest island of
Thailand located in Gulf of Thailand. Koh Samui is a beautiful
topical island and a must see for anyone planning a trip to
Thailand. The area of Samui is 280 km, with a native population of
34,000. There is one scenic 50 km road that surrounds the island
which leads to the most popular resort beaches which are Chaweng,
Lamai, Bophut and Maenam beach. The central part of the island is
deep tropical jungle with hills up to 600 meters high. |
The weather
December to February temperatures
up to 30°C (86°F) occasional rain occurring mostly in
December. This is the best season for travelers seeking cooler
temperatures.
March to June it becomes very hot, up to 40°C
(114°F) are rarely raining. You will enjoy a bungalow with air
condition during these months!
July to September hot, with moderate rain showers.
June, October, November are rainy seasons.
In contrast to other regions of Thailand, Samui does not really
have a typical raining season, but occasionally there are sunless
periods of 2 or 3 days. |
The beaches
Chaweng beach is the largest beach with very
smooth sand and clear water. It is a major tourist center area
with big discotheques, nightclubs, restaurants, and hotels.
Lamai beach is the second largest tourist center.
The beach is a little rougher and the water is much deeper, so it
an excellent swimming and diving location.
Bophut and Maenam beach located in the north of
the island, both have smooth sand and excellent swimming
conditions. They are very peaceful and quiet locations. |
