Oulton Hall Golf Weekend - 2004 s Year : 2004 Location : Oulton Hall, Leeds, England Number of Players : 12 Format : Ryder Cup Style Teams (Performance related) & Individual Website : www.devereonline.co.uk/hotel_oulton 2004, yet another resounding success, both the venue (very posh) and the gathering of the dirty dozen made for another enjoyable golf weekend. 2004 saw the splitting up of the all conquering Kids team, the Old timers had had enough of a beating and insisted on teams with near equal performance ratings. With the new teams it set things up for another enjoyable competitive weekend for all. Oulton Hall provided the setting, an old castle type building with all the usual trimmings and facilities that we have come to expect, and some members that you don't expect (ignorant rich git) !. Andy & Trevor had once again delivered a premium location/facility at an affordable price (courtesy of www.golfbreaks.com ), and of course we had our local man Alan giving us all the local knowledge we could require. The Oulton Hall parkland course was a strange mix of tight and open, the front nine was as hard as hell with most holes being individual i.e. tree lines, the back nine was the total opposite, open, wide fairways with a good chance to retrieve you scorecard if it had all gone wrong on the front nine ! All in all a nice well laid out course. On the competition front the Ryder Cup style event was fiercely contested, the new teams really had a ding dong battle over the course of the weekend, the final score being a very close 9.5 to 8.5. On the individual front there was to be a new winner, Andy Ibbitson, one of the 'Pro' type regular players (and co-organiser) who final got to lift the individual trophy. Marky Mark who in the prior year had shocked everyone came down to earth with a bump and finished 8th. The overall winners position though was hotly contested and the big loser on the weekend was Stuart Coote. Stuart had virtually lead the whole weekend and then just lost out on the final round, and then got pushed into third on a tie break rule by Wayne Westlake. Big Wez again at the top of the leader board even though his handicap keeps reducing, 'the boys a natural'. Oulton Hall 2004 Results Summary 1st Andy Ibbitson 2nd Wayne Westlake 3rd Stuart Coote Nearest the Pins, Scott Emery, Stuart Coote and Emerson Graham. Longest Drive, Daryl Jones Team Winners, Andy Ibbitson (Captain), Wayne Westlake, Alan Cameron, Paul Westlake, Stuart Coote and Scott Emery.
