Tim's Bat Trapping Trip

These are picture from a trip in 1999

This is the group of us at the mine

First we setup two Harp Traps to catch the bats coming out of the mine

This is the beginings of one of the traps

They are called Harp Traps because the vertical strings resemble a harp!

The idea is that the bats do not see the strings and fly into them,
then fall into a holding bag at the bottom

We also set up two mistnetts over a stream

The bats come to drink from the pools and get caught in the net

Kind of like this! Sometimes it can be a mess!!!

You have to wear gloves when you handle them because they can realy bite!

This is a Northern Long-eared Bat (Myotis septentrionalis)

This is the endangered Indiana Bat (Myotis sodalis),
This is the bat I will be working with during my PhD.
