Background Flux

Life is not static. Things change, for better and for worse.
To see how things effect the player, give a toss on the random background flux table.

Which Background? (1d10)

1 Allies
2 Contacts
3 Fame
4 Influence
5 Mentor
6 Resources
7 Retainers
8 Status
9-10 Critter Specific

Allies, Contacts, Kinfolk, Retainers (1d10)
1-4 Mortal is ill and will be of little help to the PC in the upcoming adventure.
5-7 Mortal has been promoted or received additional training.
8-9 Mortal has had serious setback and will be of little use in the future.
10 Mortal has gained access to significant information/resources which will be of great value to the PC.

Fame (1-10)
1 Negative publicity (Maybe true, Maybe false) has given the PC a very bad rep.
2-5 Due to positive publicity, the PC's fame is waxing. Add one to the PC's fame for the next story. A six fame means *everybody* knows him.
6-9 Due to lack of publicity The PC's fame is waning. Lose one point. Negative fame results in people practically ignoring him.
10 The PC has attracted media attention. Reporters hound her, fans try to get her attention, someone wants her to endorse their product.

Influence (1d10)
1-4 The player gains temporarily a boost to influence. +1 influence for the story.
5-7 His influence wanes due to poor planning. -1 influence.
8-9 His influence shifts to something different. His influence stays the same, just how he can use it differs. Perhaps a drug ring gets a major bust and goes off to jail, but a street gang picks up the local drug dealing.
10 Media outlets have become aware of the PC's influence and has decided to make it public. Player must move or his influence may suffer.

Mentor (1d10)
1-4 Your mentor has increased in abilities. He can do more for you at this time.
5-7 Your mentor has had to leave on business and will be of less use to you in the future.
8-9 Your mentor is in serious trouble and is asking for help.
10 Your mentor has taken on another person to be mentor to. Perhaps they will be friends with you, perhaps not.

Resources (1d10)
1-4 One of the character's resources (car, house, bank account) is in sorry condition and of no use for the story.
5-7 The player's money will be tied up in unexpected expenses for the next story.
8-9 The PC has impressed someone. His resources will increase, but if he accepts the money, his freedom will be curtailed.
10 The player has the option to gamble with his resources in a risky deal. If it works, he will gain much; if it fails, he will lose much.

Status (1d10)
1-4 The player's status in his group increase due to rumors.
5-7 The player's status drops due to rumors.
8-9 The player gains status in an unexpected group for some odd reason.
10 The player is branded a scapegoat (even if he's not) and nobody will even talk to him.

Critter Specific Tables
These following tables are dependent on what type of creature the PC is playing. No tables for Mage, Wraith or Changeling yet but I'm working on it.

Vampire Tables(1d10)
1-5 Herd
6-10 Generation

Herd (1d10)
1-4 One point of the PC's herd is not available for the next story.
5-7 The player starts with one additional point of Herd due to an influx into the area.
8-9 The herd comes down with a communicable disease. If he feeds from them, he will lose one point from all physicals for the rest of the story.
The PC's herd is discovered by either other vampires, hunters, or the herd itself.

Generation (1d10)
1-2 Someone WAY up the chain (Your great, great, great grand sire) comes calling and asks you to justify being a member of HIS clan. Failure may mean removal.
3-4 Someone WAY up the chain (Your great, great, great grand sire) comes calling and asks you to tell her about your unlife and your views on vampire society today. She seems genuinely interested in your thoughts and views as "what today's Ancilla are thinking". Why?
5-7 The local Primogen / Bishop asks you to go attend a nationwide clan / sect meeting for her. If she likes you, she trusts you.
8-9 The player's clan weakness does not apply and he reads as caitiff for the next story, due to a strange alignment of the stars. Caitiff manifest a random clan weakness and read as that clan for the next story.
10 The PC went off on a blood frenzy and feasted every waking hour for the past three nights. Increase his physical stats by one and his blood pool is 3 above max. Describe him as a fat, bloated tick. Reduce his appearance by one and give him a speech impediment since his lips are so fat.

Garou & Two Skins Table (1d10)
1-2 Kinfolk
3-4 Pure Breed
5-6 Past Life
7-8 Fetish
9-10 Totem

Pure Breed (1d10)
1-4 You must have come down with something. Your pure breed is one less for the story.
5-7 The Ancestors favor you this day. Your pure breed is one more for the story.
8-9 Some kinfolk wants to have a baby with you. Now.
10 A Silver Fang declares you the Chosen One. You are assigned to some stupid/suicidal task. "I make thee the bearer of the sacred lump of Plutonium. Keep it near your heart!" Ummm ...

Past Life (1d10)
1 An Ancestor spirit *not* of the PC's tribe contacts the PC and asks PC to take a message to one of his relatives (maybe Garou, maybe not). Depending on the tribes involved, this can be a whole story in itself ...
2-4 An Ancestor shows up asking the PC to right some long forgotten wrong.
5-7 In a flash of realization, the PC suddenly remembers where a long lost Fetish/ Caern/ Toothbrush is.
8-9 The PC randomly gains knowledges and spontaneously shouts out facts.
10 The PC has an out of body experience and is summoned by another Garou with a lot of past life (even though he' s not dead yet.)

Fetish & Totem (1d10)
1-4 The spirits are unhappy and must be appeased.
5-7 An opportunity presents itself for the spirit to gain power.
8-9 The spirit goes dormant for the story.
10 The spirit is the target of the Wyrm of Corruption.
