The village seen below on Lake Neuchatel is named Auvernier and is the site of one
of the extensive 5000 year old Lake Dweller settlements which are all along this north
shore area. As the sailing port  below was enlarged in 1980 many artifacts were found
and are now in the new archeological museum in Neuchatel which also has an outdoor
reconstruction of the houses. Mt. Vully  and the high Alps (Eiger, Munch, Jungfrau) are
just out of view to the left of the picture. The Roman city of Avenche is on one of the low
          hills directly across the lake.
