INFORMATION
1. SCHEDULE
April 28-29 First
Leg of the California 500 Series Baylands
June 9-10 Second Leg of the California 500 Series Good Times

Aug. 18-19 Fourth
Leg of the California 500 Series Capitol
Sept. 15-16 Fifth

2. SIGN-IN
A. $35.00
per car; $25.00 per car for novices.
B. All
cars must pass safety before signing in.
C. Sign-in
will be open 6-8 p.m. on Friday night and 8-10 am Saturday morning. (No
Practice will be held on Friday night)
D. All late
sign-ins will start at the back of Heat 1 for that Leg only. Cars must sign in
before their first heat race to race that leg.
E. *All novices
will pill draw for each legs first heat when signing in. After sign-ins close, head tower will flip a
coin to see if the start will be straight up or inverted according to the pill
draw. If the coin is heads, the lineup
will be straight up, if it is tails, the lineup will be inverted.
3. AWARDS
A. RACE
DAY RECOGNITION:
Top
three winners from heats one and two will be awarded ribbons. Top three winners
in main will receive awards. All race day recognitions will be presented on
Sunday immediately following the conclusion of all races. Each club shall be responsible for race day
awards at their track, payable to the Awards Director of the 500 series.
*All
novice drivers will receive a participation award on the Sunday of each leg
ran.
B. CALIFORNIA
500 PLAQUES:
Each
driver that races at least four (4) legs of the series will receive an end of
the year plaque with drivers name and series finish. Plaques will be awarded
after the last racing event in the series.
*NOVICES
will be recognized at each leg, but will not receive year-end awards.
C. JACKETS:
First
place champions from each class will receive a jacket (with the exception of
novices, see below). To receive a jacket the class must have three cars running
any one of the legs in the series.
*All
novices transferring into a Jr/Sr/Hvy Honda or Stock, must run 4 of the 5 legs
to be eligible for a Rookie Of The Year Jacket, and one of the legs must
be ran as a novice.
D. SAVINGS
BONDS:
All
other awards will be paid in U.S. Savings Bonds. You will be eligible to
qualify for the savings bonds payout if you raced at least four (4) legs of the
series. Points will accumulate on all five legs. In other words, there are no
throw-out races.
Driver’s social security numbers must be
provided to the Bond director by Sept.
16, 2001 in order to receive a bond.
It is the responsibility of the handler to provide the social security
number. If the social security number
is not provided by September 16, 2001, the amount due the driver will be evenly
distributed among all eligible drivers in that class.
The
amount of the awards allocated for each eligible participant will be rounded to
the nearest dollar amount available in current U.S. Savings Bonds. Any surplus
of money will be divided equally among all eligible drivers. Any additional
monies that cannot be divided equally back to the drivers will be divided
equally back to each of the five clubs.
Savings
Bonds will be awarded in positions first through eighth as follows:
1st: 35% &
Jacket 5th: 5%
2nd: 20% 6th: 5%
3rd: 15% 7th: 5%
4th: 10% 8th: 5%
*NOVICES
WILL NOT BE AWARDED SAVINGS BONDS
E. Allocation
of the sign-in fees are as follows: $21.00 to each class (to cover cost of
year-end plaques, jackets and bonds) $14.00 to the host club, except novices
will be $15.00 to each class and $10.00 to the host club.
4. NOVICE & JUNIOR TO SENIOR
ADVANCING
A. NOVICE
ADVANCES:
All
Novices who transfer/advance after the first Leg to any Jr/Sr/Hvy Honda or
Stock class will transfer with a maximum of one point under the last place
point participant that has run the same number of legs as the driver
transferring.
B. JUNIOR TO SENIOR ADVANCES:
Junior
Stockers/Junior Hondas who will turn nine (9) years old during the series can elect
to start the series as a Senior or Heavy Stocker/Honda. Junior Stockers/Hondas
that elect to start the series as a Junior Stocker/Honda and transfer to Senior
or Heavy Stock/Honda and take his/her points to that class to a maximum of one
point under the last place point participant that has run the same number of
legs as the driver transferring.
5. RACE FORMAT
A. PRACTICE
SCHEDULE:
There
will be no practice on Friday night. Practice will start at 9:00 a.m. Saturday
morning or as soon as the track permits. Each class will be run completely
through once, and then practice will end.
Pit meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. SHARP!
B. PRACTICE
TIMES:
7 cars - 5 minutes.
After
the first set of practice, the cars in the staging area are to be pushed out
after the last car leaves the racing surface.
Flag person will wait until the cars have exited the offshoot before
throwing the green flag. The clock will
start when the green flag drops.
C. Program is
non-stop until 10:00 p.m. Saturday evening or until curfew for each track,
whichever is earlier. No junior race will start after 9:00 p.m. Saturday night.
Racing will resume Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m.
No race will start after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night. Pit meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
D. All races
except novices will be given 10 warm-up laps. If a car is not on the racing
surface when line-up is called for, that car(s) will be put to the back in the
order they return to the track. Novice
races will be hot out of the shoot.
E. All races
will be started double file. Restarts will be single file.
F. Heat
LAPS:
Heat
Number 1 & Number 2 are 30 laps. Main is 40 laps for a total of 100 laps.
G. NOVICE
LAPS & OTHERS:
Classes
with four cars or less and Novices will run 25 lap heats for a total of 75
laps.
1. Classes with 2 cars will run 10
lap heats.
2. Classes with 1 car will run a
green, white and checkered flag.
H. TRANSFERS:
(ALSO SEE LINE UP ORDER):
1. One car
will transfer from the 15 lap Consi to the back of the Semi
2. Two cars will transfer from the 20 lap Semi to the
back of Heat Number 3
EXCEPTION:
IF THERE ARE MORE THAN A FULL FIELD (8) OF NOVICES, THE CLASS WILL BE SPLIT AND
EACH SET WILL RUN 2 HEATS AND A MAIN -- THERE WILL BE NO CONSI OR SEMI FOR
NOVICES
I. ONE
CAR CLASS EXCEPTION:
One car class has the option to combine with
similar class per mutual agreement of involved participants of that class and
will be awarded separate. Points will be calculated separately also.
J. No changing of cars once racing starts at each
leg. (You must run the car you signed in with for that entire leg.) Once your
driver has taken a green flag, the car and motor is then required to remain at
the track facility. The car and motor may NOT leave the premises or you will
receive a D.Q. for the remaining races of that leg.
6. LINE-UP ORDER
*All
novice drivers will pill draw the sign in of each leg. (See 2E for line-up
order) Points will be accumulated from heat one and two to line cars in main
event. Novices will not receive points for the 100 Lapper series.
A. HEAT
NUMBER 1:
For
Heat Number 1 at the first leg, all drivers will draw for starting position.
Heat Number 1 at the second, third, fourth and fifth legs will be high point
drivers to the back and so on. Drivers missing a leg will start after drivers
racing all legs to date in order of points and then in order of sign in.
B. HEAT
NUMBER 2:
Heat
Number 2 at all legs will line up according to points accumulated in Heat
Number 1. Drivers will line up with the lowest points first working back to
highest points. DNF’S in first heart will start in the back of feature number 2
(high points first) and in front of DNF’s (in order of sign-in) then BF and
FBF.
C. MAIN
EVENT:
Main
event at all legs will be lined up according to points accumulated in Heats
Number 1 and 2 of that leg. Drivers will line up with the lowest points first
working back to highest points. DNF’s in heat 2 will start in the back of heat
number 3 (high points first) and in front of DNF’s (in order of sign in), then
BF and FBF.
D. SEMI
FEATURES:
Semi-Features
will line up according to points accumulated in Heats 1 and 2 of that leg.
Drivers will line up with the highest points first working back to lowest
points.
E. SEMI
LINE UP (JUNIOR CLASSES):
If
there are more drivers than a full junior class, the six drivers with the
highest points go to the Main. The remaining drivers will compete in the semi.
Drivers will line up with the highest points first working back to lowest
points. The first and second place finishers transfer to the main event with
the first place finisher occupying starting position 7, and the second place
finisher occupying starting position 8.
F. SEMI
LINE UP (OTHER CLASSES):
If
there are more drivers than the other full classes, the eight drivers with the
highest points go to the Main. The
remaining drivers will compete in the semi. The first and second place
finishers will transfer to the main event with the first place finisher
occupying starting position 9, and the second place finisher occupying starting
position 10.
G. CONSI:
If
there are more drivers than a full class for the Semi, the remaining drivers
will compete in the Consi. Drivers will line up with the highest points first
working back to lowest points. The first place finisher only will transfer to
the back of the Semi.
H. MISSING
A LEG:
If
you miss a leg, you automatically start in the back of the first heat of the
next leg by points accumulated in the number of legs you have run and then in
order by sign-in.
I. CLASS SIZE:
One
Car constitutes a class (see race format). See awards, as you must have 3 cars
running one of the legs in the series in the class to receive a jacket.
7. POINTS
*Novices
will receive heat one and two points to assist in line up for main. All points
will then he discarded. Novices are not scored for points in the 100 Lapper
Series.
B. MAIN
EVENT POINTS:
Main
event will be worth 40 points for the first place driver, 38 points for second,
36 points for third, etc. See chart for point break down in case of a 9 or
11-car class.
C. SEMI
POINTS:
For
classes with a semi, third place will receive 20 points and fourth place will
receive 19 point, third place will receive 18 points, etc. First and second
place receive no points since they transfer to Main event.
D. CONSI POINTS:
Consi
drivers will receive 10 points for second place, 9 points for third place, 8 points
for fourth place, etc. First place will
receive no points since he/she transfers to the Semi.

E. 3 DOT BLACK FLAG POINTS:
Any
car receiving a black flag for 3 Dot's will receive points for the last place
position at the time they drop out.
F. FLAGRANT BLACK FLAG POINTS:
Any
car receiving a flagrant black flag will receive 0 points for that race and
will start in the back of the line-up for the next heat race of that leg. (2 calls or an immediate disqualification
call is a FBF)
G. DEFINITION OF DID-NOT-FINISH (DNF):
If
you break during the warm up period prior to taking the green flag for the
heat, you will receive DNF points provided the car has taken one (1) complete
lap under its own power during the warm-up.
It will be the discretion of the track officials (i.e., judges, tower,
flagger and track director) to determine if a car has completed a lap under its
own power.
H. DEFINITION OF DID-NOT-START (DNS):
If
you do not show up for a heat (main), or do not complete one complete lap under
your own power, you will receive a DNS and 0 points for that heat (main).
8. TIES
A. RACE
DAY TIES:
Ties
will be broken by order of sign-ins (at the first leg only) with the driver
that signs in first being placed in front of the driver that signed in later.
At the second through fifth leg, ties will be broken by series points total
with the driver that has the highest series points total at that time being
placed in front of the other driver before inversion. If a tie still exists the driver that signed in first for that
leg will be placed in front of the other driver, before inversion. (In other words, the race will be lined up
high points first, and then it will be inverted)
B. SERIES TIES:
If
a tie exists after the last point race, the following steps will be taken to
determine the winner:
1. Driver winning the most races
will be declared the winner.
2. If a tie
still exists, then the driver with the best record of second, third, fourth,
etc. places will be declared the winner. If after all the race results have
been compared and a tie still exists, then there shall be a tie and both
drivers will be declared as co-winners.
9. TECH
A. First
three place finishers in each class will be impounded after the final heat.
B. Three
classes will be drawn from a hat for teardown.
C. The Tech
Director from each host club will be responsible for tech at his club’s
legs. If any tech director is
present at a leg, it is requested that he volunteer to help the host club’s
tech director at the tech bench in order to expedite tech.
D. The fee
for engine protest (tear-down) will be $100.00. A written protest must
accompany the fee. If the engine being protested is found legal, the $100.00
goes to the owner of the engine. If the engine is found illegal, the $100.00 is
returned to the protester.
No points will be awarded to the owner of the
illegal engine for that leg.
E. All
engines will be sealed immediately following the 1st heat at each
leg of the series. All handlers are
responsible to see that their engine is sealed by a track official.
10. FUEL
A. No club fuel will be provided.
B. Fuel
may be checked at tech's discretion.
C. A's and
1/2's will be fueled after 70 combined yellow and green
laps. Fuel will be given during the first caution after the 70-lap mark is
reached.
11. PROTESTS
A. All protests must be made in writing within one
(1) hour after completion of race to a 100 Lap representative or delegate only.
Anyone protesting to an official other than the 100 Lap rep or delegate will be
suspended from participation. The protest must reference the rule or scoring
procedure that was not followed by race officials.
12. GENERAL
A. Q.M.A. Tech, Weight Requirements, Racing Rules,
Work Rule, Flagging Procedures, Judging Procedures, Scoring Procedures, and
Code of Conduct shall apply unless a specific California 500-100 Lap Series
rule exists, in which case the series rules take precedence.
B. All tracks
require a minimum of at least one 4 to 8 horsepower Briggs style muffler.
C. All
Novices will run with a restrictor plate. All Junior Hondas will run with a
restrictor plate.
D. Each
club will run their own tower and ask for help as needed.
E. Each class
will have a sign-in sheet at each leg. An extra copy will be made for the tower
and is to remain with the results of each race. The Points Director will keep
track of the points. A copy of all
sing-in sheets, scoring materials, line-up, judge’s list, protest, etc. will be
provided to the points director (or representative) at the completion of each
leg.
F. The
California 500 Series Committee will have a meeting Saturday morning at each
leg if needed.
G.
The California 500
Series committee will have the responsibility for all decisions regarding the
running of the racing format.
H.
A California 500
Series member will assist the Track during all races if at all possible.
I.
There will be no X
car at any race in this series.
J.
The California 500
committee reserves the option to set time limits on the races at any time
during the series.
