This assignment requires you to read three columns by a single columnist over the course of several weeks. You may use Internet sites like the one below, or nationally syndicated columnists in newspapers or weekly magazines. The focus of your reading should be the rhetorical style, appeals and devices used by the columnist to persuade his audience. By reading three columns, you can see some of the same techniques applied to different topics or how an author adapts his appeal to his subject.

In class, you will receive directions on writing the essay summarizing your findings.

Please turn in annotated copies of the columns along with your paper.
