Silver Dreams |
SCENE 3 |
That night at the Lodging House, Race couldn't sleep, he just laid on his back in his bed looking up at the ceiling and thinking about Stella. There was something about her and for some reason he wanted to get to know her better. "It'll be hard for Race to get Stella to trust me," he thought to himself, "but I got her to tell me her name so that's a start, kind of." No matter what Race did he just couldn't get to sleep. He got up, put on his shoes and an overcoat, and then snuck out window. He walked along the back roads even though it was pitch black out and could barely see three feet in front of him. Out of nowhere he heard a scream, even though it wasn't loud, Race knew something wasn't right so he followed the voice. There in the middle of an ally way was a little girl crying. She wasn't bleeding or bruised but Race still felt he needed to comfort her. When she saw Race coming toward her, she got scared but didn't bother to move, she just put her arms over her head scrunched into a ball hoping he wasn't going to hurt her. Race squatted down to her level and tried to get a glimpse of her face. "Look I don't got any money! Please don't hurt me", she said without looking up. |
"I aint here to hurt ya, or take your money", Race said, "I just wanna help ya, you can trust me." The girl looked up slowly at Race, "I was roaming around den someone chased me and stole took some money I had picked up, and now I don't know where I am, I just wanna go home", the girl said to Race, then she wiped her tears. "Why are ya out here at dis time at night?" Race asked curiously. But the little girl didn't answer she just looked at him as if she didn't even know. "How bout I bring ya home, Race said, "By da way what's your name?" "I can't tell you my name, I'm not aloud ta, but my sister calls me Baby, so you can call me dat if you want." She said as she started to stand up, "What's your name?" "My real name is Jeremy but everyone just calls me Racetrack." "OK Racetrack", she said with a smile, "I live near Tibby's" Race smiled back then said, "To Tibby's it is." He grabbed her hand and started walking. He held her hand all the way there, and when they got there, she quickly gave him a hug with out saying anything, then ran away and disappeared into the darkness. As he walked back to the Lodging House, he started thinking about his past, that little girl had reminded him of his little brother. Racetrack remembers saying he would always protect and love him no matter what. A tear ran down Race's cheek as he remembered the day his little brother was killed. He blamed himself, if he had just been there for him it wouldn't have happened, but he wasn't, he broke his promise, and now he'll never see him again. When Race had reached the Lodging House and snuck back in. Luckily no one had woken up, he was able to slip back into bed successfully. That night Race had a hard time falling back asleep, his eyes filled with tears as he laid on his back staring up into space remembering what can never be forgotten. |
