Venna is a small, exclusive resort city, located west of the Voltai about two hundred pasangs north of Ar. It lies between Ar and the Vosk River on the Viktel Aria. Well known for its fine baths and tharlarion races, it is a common locale for the villas of the rich, especially during the summer months when the cool breezes of the lower Voltai make a refreshing change from the stifling summer heat in Ar. During the fifth passage hand, it rivals Ar itself in its festivities to celebrate its own Love Feast, the beauty of the slaves sold during this period rivaling those of the Curulean in Ar. The Telluria section, in the northwest part of the city, on a hill, is the preferred residential section. Venna has many small and fine shops, catering to the affluent trade of the well-to-do, who patronize the baths and public villas of the area. Each shop tends to specialize in a certain product, the quality of which tends to be particularly excellent as clients are most demanding and each proprietor stakes his reputation and livelihood on his produce. Venna is famous for its many exclusive perfume shops. |
One may find a large variety of goods and entertainment in the loud and colourful bazaars and markets. Inside its walls, Venna is comprised of small flat-roofed, multi-storeyed structures, shops and houses, apartments and public buildings and,of course, its famous arena for tharlarion racing. Certain of the wealthiest citizens of Venna dwell in personal holdings, well-fortified villas usually located on the outskirts of the city. Each such villa is designed to be a virtual fortress in the event of enemy attack. Behind closed walls and well hidden from the public eye , one finds the pleasure gardens of the wealthy Free Women of the city. Free Women with much time on their hands and much money to spend, much to the delight of Turbus Veminlus one of Venna’s foremost perfumers. It is not unusual for one of His signature perfume's to cost as much as a gold tarsk. |
“He, like many perfumers, and hairdressers and cosmeticians, treated his female clientele almost as though they were slave girls. Indeed, he was famous for once having said, "They are all slave girls." Yet, in spite of the gruff, authoritarian way in which they might be handled, and the rude, peremptory fashion in which they might be addressed, women, and high-caste women, for no reason that was clear to me, flocked to his shop. He was, of course, one of the foremost perfumers of Gor. His prices, it might be mentioned, were beyond the reach of all but the very wealthy. It might also be mentioned that he did not deal at all in slave perfumes.” * For slave perfumes it is necessary to move to the Street of Brands "We do not sell perfume for slave sluts in the shop of Veminius," he said, sternly. |
"Forgive me, Turbus," she said. "Try the shop of the Steel Bracelets," he smiled. "It is near the house of Hassan, on the Street of Brands." "Thank you, Turbus," she said. She turned again, to leave. "And do not let them overcharge you," he called after her. "Five two-hort vials should cost you no more than a copper tarsk!" * |
The kajirae of Venna are among the most beautiful and talented of Gor. The expectations of the wealthy patrons being most demanding and money being no object. As befitting the fame of Venna, each kajira “is brought in to the perfumers by her Master for a consultation; the perfumer then questions the girl, orders her about, and may even caress her; then, in the light of her background and history, and intellectual and physiological nature, he recommends a perfume, or blend of perfumes, for her; this perfume, or blend of perfume, is thus, in its way, matched to her unique beauty and bondage.” * |
The inhabitants of Venna have a cultured soft spoken mode of speech, although this might be contested by anyone present in the arena during a thalarion race with huge sums of money weighing on the outcome, heated arguments over breeding and indignant exclamations as a favoured racer is attacked by another. And then to the Bath House to spend One’s winnings or to be soothed and consoled by a beautiful kajira over One’s losses. The famous Bath Houses of Venna are among the most luxurious of Gor, rivalling even the celebrated Carpathian Bath House of Ar. The purpose of the Bath House is to provide a quiet place for Men to enjoy the company of the slaves of the bath…skilled in the art of massage and delighting the senses. *(Book 17: Savages of Gor, page 88; Book 22: Dancer of Gor, page 319, Book 10: Tribesmen of Gor, page 50 Book 15: Rogues of Gor, page 91, Fighting Slave of Gor pages 209-220 … Kajira of Gor. page 141) |
