The Story Of Choke
The current line up of the band Choke was established in late
1996, and since then they have worked hard in their live shows and
their recorded products.
For a band like Choke it is hard to pigeon-hole the band into a
specific genre, but the closest you'll get is Heavy Metal. Like most
Heavy Metal acts there is the growling vocals and heavy guitar riffs,
but underneath this is the lyrics to their songs which when heard are
done in a tounge-in-cheek style sense of humour, which in the metal
scene is a refreshing breath of fresh air.
Up to this date the band have two releases that have gone down
well with the local Perth crowd, these include their debut demo tape
release in 1997 Onabigwun which included instant classics such as
"Fear the Bad Boy" and "Fist of Fury" which incldes a very interesting
sample at the start. Their next release was their CD Smokin' Tailpipe
Action, which included favourites like "Chocoholic", "Anal Vineyard",
and "Spicy Skin Free".
As for the band on the live scene, well the punters come out
in droves to see the band. Choke headline a large amount of shows
around the Perth trap with many punters signing along with their songs.
Choke was also lucky enough to support the large intenational act Fear
Factory in thier Perth leg of their tour in March of 1999 and blew many
of the Fear Factory fans away with their superb show before Fear Factory
got on stage. This showed in the next weekend on their CD launch for
Smokin' Tailpipe Action where they had an audience of 300+.
Just recently Choke released their own line of merchandise of
Stubbie holders and T-shirts, and for this they held a small fashion
parade where a few ladies showedcased some of the band's line of
T-shirts in the middle of one thier gigs.
Recently Choke have completed a track for an AC/DC tribute
album to be released in the United States and Japan and are the only
Metal band to be included in the compilation. The band is also contemplating
an eastern states tour early this year.
And now more recently, Choke's brilliant CD Smokin' Tailpipe Action
has been banned by the Censorship office for its crude lyrics and CD book art.
If you are a worried a punter with the now illegal copy of the CD, contact the
band and get the flaccid penis version of the CD, If you want to know more about
it check out the "News" section of the site.
The band has also recieved expressions of interest in distributing their
CD overseas to places like the USA, Germany, France, Brasil and Indonesia. So the
fellas are cracking the big time, so punters might as well get in on the ground
floor and support the boys now.
In September of 2000 the band let Lee (Drums) go and found a replacement
in ex Centaur drummer Merim.
The year 2001 has seen Choke with a new drummer and a new outlook of even
more stupidity & immaturity. They managed to score the support slot for the premier
Aussie grind band Blood Duster at their last venture down to Perth. And punters
look out, Choke look set to tour this wide brown land in May 2001.
