Blood Duster gig at Grosvenor Back Room - Saturday 24th February
Well Fuck me drunk, what a pearler of a show and line up this was.
A nice looking crowd turned up to see our boys Choke take the stage, and
did they ever take it. In front of a nice looking mosh pit the boys looked pumped
up for a great set. And a great set it was.
From the get go Choke released some full on metal energy that was clearly
affecting they crowd as they banged their heads to such tunes as Filthy Untamed
Foxy Bitches on Heat Go Doggy Style, Stuntcock, Spicy Skin Free, Fear the Bad Boy,
Your Mum's Cunt Stinks and Anal Vineyard. Apart from their favourites they also
played covers of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and S.O.D's Unitied Forces
All played with such ferosity that you couldn't help but bang your head and watch
the band clearly enjoy themselves on stage. I would have to say it was one of their
best sets.
When the pit started to reform at the front of the stage it was clear The
Dirty Whittler where up. In case you haven't heard this band their first CD
title pretty sums up their style of music,
GrooveCoreAmbientGrindBeefDiscoRapeFunkSchwang, they are a great band and I advise
you keep an ear out for them.
Well with their chunky bass and tighly knit style these guys were going
great guns, which was evident in the crowd in the pit jumping around like maniacs.
Songs like Theme Bong, Black on Black, Flossing With Meat and War G1 and 2 from
both of their CD releases certainly got the crowd pumped up for the next band up.
From the get go the band everyone came to see Blood Duster certainly
showed everyone that the Aussie metal scene is definately in good form.
Creating pure metal mayhem in the crowd and on the stage Blood Duster
easily coasted through a great set of songs from their four albums and looked as
though they were having fun doing it.
Jason PC (Vocals) was jumping around the stage like a maniac homeboy as
the guitarists were pumping out some grilling riffs, they even got a bit of the
waving the arms from side to side action from the crowd with little prompting.
Going through classic songs like Albert, Northcoate, Knee Deep in
Mestrual Blood, Pornstorestiffi, Sweetmeat and Fuckyousceneboy which Jason PC
instantly dedicated to the people in the mosh pit. I don't think there was a
single still head in the room while they were up.
So what can you say after seeing a gig like this three shit hot Aussie
metal bands going ape shit on stage for over three hours. Well I was very
satisfied, it was a bloody tops gig and for all you people out there that think
metal is dead and Aussie metal is non existant, think again. Get out there
and check out these bands they'll show you how healthy our metal scene is.
All ages gig at Liquids Niteclub, Rockingham - Sunday 18th February
Well it seems like the word got around about this little gig and a not bad
crowd turned up to see a few of the local boys carve out some great metal for the
punters. After the stage was cleared from the Kretin and Plague sets (I must say
Plague put on a pearler of a set) the fellas from Choke hopped up ready to show
the Rockingham kids what metal was about.
Along with their new drummer the boys started belting out all your
favourites which got the heads of the few up front going up and down in what the
kids like to called a mosh. Among the songs they played were all you favourites,
Your Mum's Cunt Stinks, Anal Vineyard, Fist of Fury, Stuntcock, Fear the BadBoy and
Spicy Skin Free to name a few. And each song was played with the fury they
deserved.
A highlight of the night I would have to say, when Spicy Dysie himself
piped up and asked the crowd who liked AC/DC, and of course one little dickhead
had to scream out "NO!", so after he got his due abuse from the band they kicked
up into a roaring version of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
All in all it was a great night, the boys ripped into some great metal
while I cursed the fact that the all ages gig didn't allow any beer at all to be
sold. Oh well I saw some great metal and thats all that matters.
Kiss My WAMI - Newport Hotel September 10 2000
Well it was the band I was waiting for all night and I was not
disappointed. To start with there were only three of the fellas on stage
before Glenn "Chopper Reid" Dyson graced the stage with his precence, covered
in "Chopper" like tats and weilding two pistols. This is where the action
started, the boys were full of energy, jumping about and showing the punters
where the Perth metal scene is at.
And of course they played everyones favourites, Your Mum's Cunt Stinks,
Spicy Skin Free, and Stuntcock as well as many more.
But I must say the highlight of the night was Choke's rendition of a road
safety advert. Yes they did a very cool metal rendition of the Dirt Racer ad,
with all the band wearing helmets and with Glenn riding a little plastic
Trike, it was all very classy.
All in all it was a great set, with very energetic showmanship, and some
great metal tunes. It was a pearler of a set. Top work Choke.
Raffles Hotel March 21 2000
Then it was onto the heroes of the evening, CHOKE, to give us their brand
of humorous grind-core metal. With bass player Brad Wesson, sporting his new
fluorescent green Mr T-like mohawk, the notion for Choke to top any
performance they had played to date was fulfilled in fine style. Classics
from the past, present & future were served on a platter, Anal Vineyard, Bow
Wow Chow, Moneybox and the all time favourite Fist of Fury, were played with
a matching response from the crowd.
A porn inspired collage was projected on to a backdrop for the duration of
Stuntcock, depicting what entertainment `Chokestyle` is all about.
As far as entertainment went, Choke delivered and delivered again. In the
end they clocked up an hour long performance and restoring faith and good
times in the hearts of those dedicated to following the metal scene.
Choke - light on the humour, heavy on the metal.
Fear Factory/ Choke March 2nd, 1999
As punters continued to edge towards the front of the queue, local boys
Choke had their moment of glory on the big stage in front of the big crowd,
and from what was being heard outside (and eventually in) was excellent. An
opportunity like this was seized by Choke eagerly. The result was a tight,
polished sound that just plain made you feel like throwing you body into
someone elses. Or stand back and admire their grindcore riffery, pepped up
with gore lyrics focussing on the less serious side of life. Those who were
impressed should definitely jump on the Choke wagon soon.
