Armoured Angel are truly one of Australia's legendary extreme acts and one of the earliest groups from anywhere to play the dense and intense style of heavy metal that would later be branded ‘death’. The band was started by Luck in Canberra as long ago as 1984, consolidating the line up with the Greens by 1987. Their classic 1988 demo "Wings of Death" saw the beginning of the band's huge loyal cult following. 1990 saw the release of the "Communion" demo and subsequent east coat tour that scored Armoured Angel a major label deal with Id records. "Wings of Death" was later issued as a vinyl EP by English label CCG in the early 90s. Stigmartyr was released in 1992 and Mysterium two years later, and tours with Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower raised the band's profile internationally and saw them branch out from their traditional bludgeoning roots. Armoured Angel toured throughout Europe and the US in 1995 and laid the foundations of a full-length album to be produced by Killing Joke’s Jaz Coleman but the break up of the band meant it was never completed. Armoured Angel started the Metal for the Brain concept in 1991 and played ther every year until 1995. The band split in 1996 with the departure of the Green brothers. By mid-1997 however, Armoured Angel reformed with Yuri Ward (Psychrist) (guitar, vocals) and Steve Luff (drums) and began playing live once more. Their first full-length CD Angel of the Sixth Order was released by Warhead Records in 1999. Luff left the band sometime after this and it seems the band was no more. There has been talk of Armoured Angel returning once again, but this is yet to happen. In early 2001, Luck joined Reign of Terror.
