Blazing twin guitar powered melodic metal with a sound recalling Iron Maiden, Helloween and occasionally even Megadeth is the hallmark of this Sydney band. Formed in Broken Hill in mid-1989 as a trio featuring Tim,
Ian DeBono (drums) and Eddie Trezise (bass), the band quickly expanded to a
five piece with the addition of Carolyn Boon (keys) and Jason Hansen (guitar)
and Randall Hocking replacing Trezise. At this stage the band's sound was a
hybrid of US and European thrash, power and glam. Several more line-up changes
occured before guitarist Dale Corney joined Dungeon in early 1991. By now the band was a duo
using a drum machine and in 1992 Tim and Dale moved to Sydney, quicking laying
down tracks which were to later form the basis of the ‘Changing Moods' EP. This
CD, recorded with George Smith (bass), Andrew Brody (drums) and Steve Mikulic
(guitar), won support from new Japanese label TDK-Core, who convinced the band
to release a collection of demoed songs. Demolition was the result, with
bass tracks recorded by new bassist Juz Sayers, and by now Wayne Harris was
behind the kit, although he refused to be associated with the CD so that Ty
Blakely stood in for him for all promotional material despite not even being
a drummer! Demolition went on to sell over 5,000 copies in Japan and is now
a rare collector's item as the label ditched rock for film soundtracks shortly
afterwards and the CD was never re-pressed. Ex-Addictive
drummer Steve Moore joined Dungeon in 1997 and with the line-up of Tim, Corney,
Sayers and Moore the most solid since the band's inception, Dungeon began gigging
regularly, drawing appreciative audiences to their strong, energetic shows featuring
epic, fast paced classic melodic power metal. Sayers left the band in July 1999
to concentrate on his King Oath project and was replaced by Brendan McDonald.
Dungeon supported Nevermore and Yngwie Malmsteen in late 1999 and have since played
at Metal for the Brain in 99, 2000 and 2001. Corney left the band in August 2001 and was replaced by Stuart Marshall in time for their third Metal for the Brain appearance. Dungeon signed to Metal Warriors in mid-2002 after a short national tour supporting German melodic metal band Edguy. A Rise to Power was supported by a national tour that saw Dungeon performing a remarkable 90-minute set during which they played the album in its entirety! Since the release of that album, Dungeon has become one of Australia's highest profile heavy metal bands. In May 2003, the band featured at the Melodic Metal Meltdown festival in Japan. A Rise to Power was released internationally by German label LMP in June 2003. Rising Power is a limited-issue album of covers and re-worked earlier songs released to promote their Japanese tour.
Moore was with Dark Order on a temporary basis from mid-2002 until late 2003. Tim issued a solo album under the name Lord in late 2003.
