Solid, riff-roaring heavy metal. Mantissa was originally known as Killing Time and featured Jed Starr on guitar and Tubby Wadsworth on drums. The name change to Mantissa came in August of 1992, after Starr left the group and shortly before the release of the exceptional Mossy God album that was produced by Terry Date. The band also switched base from Sydney to Melbourne around the same time after a national tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Mantissa rocked with plenty of power while maintaining a high melody factor and the band’s music won a large US following. Mantissa toured and worked in the US from the end of 1993 before returning to Australia to tour with Pantera and then with the Big Day Out. This was followed by the issue of the 'Inter Alia' EP and several months later the long-awaited second album was released. Thirst was a major disappointment and Mantissa fell apart. Syd Green joined Christ Art Museum in late 1995.
