NUNCHUKKA SUPERFLY

Blackie (vocals, guitar); Ray Ahn (bass); Joel Ellis (drums)

Raised from the still-smoking ashes of the Hard Ons, Nunchukka Superfly has been through several incarnations since first coming together in 1995. While not technically metal in any true sense, there is certainly enough piledriving rifferama and staunch guitar infused with hyperactive punk to please any discerning listener. Indeed Nunchukka Superfly is the heavier, more metallic bastard cousin of Blackie and Ray's other band and it's perhaps surprising they haven't become more popular with the metal crowd. The original line-up saw former Hard Ons Blackie and Ray teamed with ex-Massappeal drummer Pete Allen and Peter from Harpoon on vocals, an instantly devastating sledgehammer assault which played the 1995 Livid festival and toured with Rollins Band simply on reputation alone. The line-up was volatile however and split up immediately after their barnstorming performance at the Sydney Big Day Out in 1996. After lying dormant for almost a year, Nunchukka returned in various combinations before Joel made it a stable partnership. When the Hard Ons reformed at the end of 1997 it was thought the band would be no more, but this has happily proven not to be so.
