Miss Norman joins the school in September 1935. She leaves for a while after the school evacuates from Austria in 1938. Between September 1938 and December 1943, Miss Norman is teaching at a large school near London. She rejoins the school at Plas Howell in January 1943. When the school moves to Switzerland in 1949, she stays with the Carnbach Branch in England.

Miss Norman primarily teaches the Juniors. She becomes Head of the Junior School in January 1936, and Head of St. Agnes' House in April 1937. She also teaches English, and teaches extra French lessons for a while. She is a Kindergarten Mistress while the school is at St. Brival's.
Family:
Ivy is the oldest of the 4 children. Her father died in 1934. The family is rather poor and her mother is not able to cope well. In 1936, her sister is a secretary to a bank manager; her brother, Geoffrey, is at Oxford on a scholarship; her brother, Alec, aged 15, is at school and clever. Miss Norman is paying for her younger brother Alec's education.

Although she is English, she was educated in France.
She is afraid of mice and hates Science. She is excellent with the Junior girls, but somewhat unsure around the older ones.
