Five Years in Five Days
By: Rina K. Fenderson
Day One
One emerald eye opened, then shut quickly when a shaft of sunlight hit the dilated pupil. A short hiss, followed by a body recoiling under the sheets, brought Hisoka to realize and dread...it was morning. It was strange; he didn’t think he had tossed orturned, he didn’t remember any nightmares, he went to bed very, very early, so why did he feel so...uncomfortable...
With a weary moan he threw off his covers and placed his feet on the floor beside his bed, for a
moment he collected himself, not rising from the bed. Then when the clock switched to 8:45 am he unconsciously reached over to turn off his alarm that he awoke before. Stumbling from the bed and heading for the shower he tried to contemplate why he felt so tired, but the fact that he remained half asleep even through his hot shower made it impossible to concentrate on anything.
Strange thoughts were going through his mind, and he was disturbed slightly that Tsuzuki popped up in his head more than usual. Stretching as he threw off his robe and started to pull on his blue jeans, he tried to dismiss his reeling mind. Then he noticed something, as he buttoned the pants...he could barely breathe. His green eyes flew down to the hem of his jeans to see them a
good six inches higher than his ankle and the zipper and button were straining over a broader pelvis. His heart began beating a little faster as he rushed to the full length mirror in the corner of his bedroom.
The reflection that stared back at him was a handsome young man clearly in his early twenties,
with silky ash blond hair slightly longer than his own and frightened emerald green eyes, although they seemed a bit narrower compared to what he remembered his being. Suddenly those eyes narrowed and the hands at his sides clenched in fury the muscles in his mature chest growing taunt. "WATARI!!!"
~~*~*~*~~
Twenty minutes later, after a frantic call to Watari’s apartment, Hisoka sat on his bed, buttoning up the sleeves of the white shirt the older male had brought him. He had told Hisoka they were Tsuzuki’s clothes, that those would fit Hisoka better than any of the other male’s clothing at the Shokan division. Although he apparently hadn’t told Tsuzuki he had borrowed
the clothes. Hisoka sighed as he stared down at his taller, and broader form.
"Watari-san, what happened?" Watari was pacing around Hisoka looking at the young man at every angle, trying to find a sign of what had gone wrong in his experiment. "Hmmmm...I can’t think of any chemical in that pill that could have done this too you, Bon."
"I didn’t think there *were* chemicals that could do this to a person," Hisoka snapped blandly. Watari ignored his cold tone and motioned for him to stand. Hisoka did so his arms crossed over his chest, the white fabric wrinkling with the movement.
"I’m going to have to have you come to my lab. So we can do some testing," Watari told him, his hands prodding at Hisoka’s neck, then tugging one of his arms out of its folded position to take
his pulse. "You seem to be healthy enough, but I still think a blood test and x-ray should be taken. I want to make sure this...growth spurt didn’t hurt your bone structure." He paused then laughed, throwing chipperness into his tone as if to assure Hisoka. "Although I doubt it has."
"Watari-san, what happens if I keep getting older?"
Watari frowned at the worried sadness in the young man’s tone. He tilted his head and let Hisoka’s wrist pull away from his own hand. The boy’s green eyes were veiled with his lengthened ash blond hair, but Watari could still see the fear in the striking depths. "I wouldn’t worry about that, Bon. I made the drug weak enough that this will last a mere week at tops."
"I aged five years in one night, Watari!" Hisoka snapped, spinning on Watari with panic. "What happens if its starts going faster? By the time a week is over I could be 100 or more!"
"Tsuzuki is almost 100," Watari offered.
"Tsuzuki is perpetually 26, Watari! If my body ages that much my life as a shinigami is over!"
Watari felt a pang of sadness as he watched Hisoka’s eyes shimmer. He turned abruptly from Watari to hide his tears, but they weren’t unnoticed. Watari tried to bite his tongue to prevent his
natural defense from escaping, but failed. "So does this mean you won’t be helping me with any other experiments?"
"Get out," Hisoka hissed, without looking at him as he leaned against the window sill.
The blond haired scientist sighed and nodded though he was sure Hisoka could not see such a motion. "I need you at the lab later on today and I’m going to have a meeting with the others,
so they know what has happened...I want you to be there...okay? Bon?"
"Yes, fine...just leave, Watari-san," Hisoka breathed out, apparently his fury gone and replaced by frustration. That emotion Watari could relate to.
"I’m sorry, Bon," Watari said softly as he leaned against the door frame of the young man’s front door. "I didn’t think anything like this would happen. If it is of any assurance, I doubt this is harmful."
"Aa," Hisoka replied, with no other words for his coworker. Watari’s shoulders sagged and he turned shutting the door behind him as he started for his laboratory and computer to figure
out what exactly was going on. Glancing over his shoulder, once outside the apartments, up to Hisoka’s window he could barely contain his smile. He did highly doubt anything harmful would come of the situation, but he knew with Tsuzuki’s high attraction towards Hisoka before, there would be a much more ardent response towards the new and older Hisoka, who looked, if it were
possible, even more beautiful and enchanting than before.
*Yes,* Watari thought to himself as he jogged up the steps into the Juohchou building, with a mischievous smile. *I do believe nothing harmful will come of this situation...*
~~*~*~*~~
"Well, we are here, Watari," Konoe, chief of the Shokan division, declared glancing around the table. His wrinkled eyes took in the tall form of his secretary, Tatsumi Seiichirou, the adorable light in one of his employees, Tsuzuki Asato’s, violet eyes, and the two hovering chicken-like white creatures, who werethe recorders of Juohchou, named Gushoushin. "All that you requested, is there a reason why it is just us?"
"I figured it would be best to consult you before we bring this to light to anyone else in the Shokan division, or into Enmachou," Watari replied, flipping through the papers in his hands; research of what went wrong and the consequences.
"Right then, you may begin," Konoe commanded.
Tsuzuki’s eyebrows raised as he sat up a little straighter. "What about Hisoka? If you have me here, shouldn’t my partner hear it as well?"
Watari bit his lower lip and laughed forcefully. "Well, this concerns bon. He doesn’t need to
hear it cause he’s experiencing it."
"Oh, dear," Tatsumi said under his breath, although catching the attention of the others. He put a hand to his forehead, but unlike usual didn’t push his glasses up. "The poor boy, you experimented on him, didn’t you?"
"Aa," Watari replied, with a defeated sigh.
"So what damage did it cause?" Tatsumi urged on, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest. Out of the corner of his blue eyes he saw Tsuzuki fidgeting nervously, his concern for the boy impeccable. "No, damage really," Watari assured them, glancing down at his papers. "The formula was to make a shinigami impermeable. Although we heal quickly, there is still a chance that shinigami will bleed to death. Bon, almost discovered this himself a while
ago."
"But?" Konoe responded, leaning his chin against his intertwined hands.
"But the formula did nothing of the sort," Watari replied, not insulted that they knew something had gone wrong. His experiment success was about fifty-fifty; half good, half explosion. He showed Konoe who was sitting at the head of the small square table, a diagram. "You see, instead of regenerating stronger cells, the formula created...well, mature cells."
"Meaning?" Konoe asked, glancing over the diagram, while Tatsumi took it to get a better look,
Tsuzuki curiously looking over his shoulder.
"He had a growth spurt. His cells matured, his body grew with them," Watari explained, tilting his head to look out of the cracked door. "Bon!"
"How much of a growth spurt?" Tatsumi asked intrigued as the door opened and a tall, slim young man stepped in. Konoe was about to tell him to set up a time to see him later, when he took in
the soft ash blond hair and the striking emerald eyes that peered stoically through that curtain.
"Good gods! Kurosaki-kun!?" Konoe exclaimed in surprise. Beside him Tatsumi raised his eyebrows his blue eyes flickering up and down Hisoka’s built frame. Tsuzuki’s wide violet eyes were doing
the same, his mouth slightly parted in awe.
Looking away from the group, Hisoka blushed. The elder of the Gushoushin, hovered over to Hisoka in curiosity, raising his chin to look in his eyes. "It is Hisoka!"
"Aa," Watari claimed, noticing that at his voice all, but Tsuzuki called their attention back to him. "You may sit down, Bon."
Without a word, the attractive young man sat in the vacant seat across from Tsuzuki, his hands on the table top and his eyes trained to his hands. Tsuzuki shook himself slightly, and forced his attention back on Watari, his violet eyes occasionally drifting over to Hisoka.
"Bon’s body, since it technically was not fully grown yet, was probably not the best test subject I should have taken, but the last consequence on my mind was a growth spurt," Watari explained. "Well, what’s done is done--"
"How long?" Hisoka snapped, his voice notably deeper.
"Excuse me?"
Hisoka green eyes flashed up to Watari, "How long will this last?"
Watari’s amber-brown eyes ticked over to Tsuzuki for a moment and almost laughed at the comical hopefulness in the dark haired male’s eyes. What was he hoping for? "A week at tops. I told you such before. I thoroughly researched the reaction and the formula to determine Bon’s health
situation. I found that; 1. It is perfectly harmless to his system, 2. His body will grow
no more than the five years it already has, because at this point his body is fully matured and at its strongest, and 3. Regardless, all effects will be gone in approximately a week. I made the formula weak so it would do so."
"So it is nothing to be afraid of then?" Konoe asked.
Watari nodded his blond hair falling over his shoulders. "Physically it is harmless, mentally I
think Bon can take it, but you yourself didn’t recognize him when he walked in, so I would put out a bulletin to tell the others and make sure they don’t try and kick him out of Juohchou."
Konoe nodded and motioned to the others. "Well, I think that is everything. Tatsumi will send out the bulletin and Kurosaki-kun you are welcome to lay low. Tsuzuki!" Tsuzuki paused trying to follow Hisoka out as the male left quickly. He sighed and looked back at the chief. "You’re
lucky."
"Eh?" Tsuzuki asked, his head tilting, his violet eyes confused.
"Since things are quiet and your partner is ill, you are free to take a vacation. A short one, though."
Tsuzuki seemed to pause again before he smiled brightly, "Thank you, Chief, but I think I will stay and help my partner." With that he was out the door, both Tatsumi and Konoe flashing knowing smiles at his back.
