Gospel Explosion started as far back as 1972 when a group of six Christians came together under the name of THE THICK SOUND. This group didn’t make so much progress until 1974 when this seemingly dead group sprung back to life under the new name GOSPEL EXPLOSION. Explo in 1978 decided to raise funds for instruments; in line with this vision members brought ideas together to direct and act a play entitled “ Someone To Live For”, After staging it for the first time at the Great Hall of UST, it had so much impact that when an appeal for funds was made, 2,500.00 was realised at that time though the target was 10,000.00. Explo then staged the play at Prempeh College, Wesley College, Grace Baptist Church and the National Cultural Centre. Funds accrued from these shows were used to purchase the first set of instruments for Explo which were outdoored by the University Protestant Chaplain on the 14th of January 1979. Then came one of the greatest breakthroughs in reaching out. Explo undertook what she called the “Southern Trip”, on the 8th of February 1979, which took them to the campuses of the Advanced Teacher Training College Winneba, University Of Ghana, Legon and the University of Cape Coast. At all these places people gave their lives to God due to the impact the play had on them and they donated generously to the group. In 1980, the group introduced what it termed Campus Evangelism where they went from one Hall to the other to sing and present the word. Explo was made up of three wings, the singing group, Prayer Force and the Follow Up group. These groups were autonomous but were all answerable to the Executive body of Explo. Gospel Explosion ministers God’s word through the medium of music and also trains her members to excel in the field of gospel music, so they could be of immense use in their local churches. As part of her ministry, Gospel Explosion organises an annual musical performance dubbed “ Explo Nite Of Joy”, a free admission programme that has always been successful and full of testimonies in ministering the gospel. Since the inauguration in 1972, many of the people who have passed through Gospel Explosion are currently helping the music departments of the various churches and music groups that they find themselves. To the glory of God Explo have the following albums to her credit, · Agya mebo wo mmrame · Ayeyi se wo - 1993 · Adom - 2000 Gospel Explosion relies on donations from members, individuals, alumni and corporate groups to organise these programmes. Your contribution in cash and in kind would be very much appreciated. This year’s Explo Nite comes off on the 17th of May and it comes with the theme, “THE YEAR OF GOD’S FAVOUR”, Isaiah 61:1-3. |
