Movies from the Third Imperium

Movies

A futuristic train speeding to a starport on an airless moon.

Two Sulieman Class Scouts prepare for launch (raise landing geer)

An Empress Marava class frieghter landing.

And some Non-Movies

The domed city that the tube train is heading for, seen just outside the tube.  Off to the left is a starport landing area, but nothing shows up in this picture.

An Empress Marava class starship landing near the domed city.  This is probably the starport at Paya.  (The ship has to be landing, if you look closely, it doesn't quite touch the ground.)  There's a tanker truck next to it, and some fuel storage tanks in the background.

Inside an O'Neil space colony, looking at the curved end. This is actually based on a spherical design, but could be the end of a cylindrical one.
The green terraces are about 30 meters wide, and I fit 180 single or multi-family houses on the first terrace. Above that are apartment buildings and offices. On the third and fourth terrace are manufacturing and warehouses. Above that (although I don't have anything here) would be lo-gravity recreational facilities. The sphere has an internal radius of 495 meters. Towards the left is a black band that is a window for reflected sunlight, and a green, speckled band, representing the 1-G park. (In this computer model, the other hemisphere would look like this one. However, in rendering the picture, POV was running at a blazing 2 pixels per second, so I "removed" everything that wasn't actually in the picture. That got the speed up to 8 pixels per second.)
This picture was rendered at 1280 X 1024 pixels to serve as the background on my computer at work, and to give an idea of the size of such a structure.

Sources

I intend to add the sources for these movies. (Or parts of the sources. I have a bad habit of overwriting parts of scenes as I finish. Oh well.)

Acknowledgements

The mpegs presented here were created with CMPEG (available from the Animation Utilities page in POV-Ray pages).
The frames were rendered with POVRay
The models were created with Moray 3.2
The city was generated by  Kieth Hull's Moray plug in for Chris Colfax's POV City include
The geodessic dome was generated with the Sphere include file from here.
The body of the Suleiman was based on an octahedron plug in for Moray 3.1 which I can no longer find, so the MDL's don't work.  Blast.
The mountains were built with a terrain generator years ago for a different picture.  I no longer have the software or the authors name.  Sorry.
