From
the desk of the webmistress.
OK, why is it that I am the only one posting to
this journal? My life is just not that interesting. For example, this
weekend I moved furniture around in my bedroom, went out to dinner with
friends, stayed up too late, went for a four mile walk in the pouring
rain at Ocean Beach, went to the shopping center with my daughter and
bought a couple of travel items, spent $600 dollars on a new pair of prescription
sunglasses (ouch), worked on an article for my office, watched TV, and
so on.
Now my knees hurt (too much rain here) and I can't sleep
at night. Life is grand out here in gray and gloomy San Francisco.
OH, and did I mention the 4.4 earthquake on Sunday? We're
rollin' now.

From the desk of the webmistress.
That's enough earthquakes. I really mean it. Watching the coverage of
the earthquake in Washington has been difficult. Even more difficult was
listening to the sounds of the earthquake. I found myself gripping my
chair with white knuckles, breathing fast and shaking. I so clearly remember
the sounds of the Loma Prieta earthquake, and hearing that sound again
takes me right back to 1989. It's hard to comprehend the violence of a
really big earthquake unless you've been through one. Some of the videos
on the news do a pretty good job of showing how much shaking there is,
but it's still nothing like being in a room and suddenly hearing this
roaring, then seeing everything in the room jumping around, even the walls
and floor, and being unable to walk because of the violence of the movement
around and under you.
That's life out here on the left coast. But hey! On the up-side, the
weather's been really great for a couple of days now. That can't last.
OK, back to work.
Go to next week!
