Monday 3/26/01
Yesterday the East Bay Team rode up Mount Diablo. It was a great
ride! The weather was perfect, sunny and breezy. I rode a 50 mile
loop from my house. At mile 8 I was at Alamo Square (in Alamo, go
figure) where I met up with the rest of the team. Then we took off
for the mountain. We went up southside, which is the harder way
to get to the top, 10 miles of climbing! We passed a man photographing
a bobcat (there are many on the mountain), and we passed a bunch
of boy scouts. I went all the way to the summit (yes, I took photos,
they will be up in the first week of April, along with the Wildflower
practice weekend photos)! And for those of you who know the mountain,
I rode the last 80 yards as well! (BTW, that last 80 yards is a
cruel joke.) It was about 34 miles round trip from the parking lot
at Alamo Square. I stopped to refuel at the first ranger station
on the way up, took in the view for a while at the top. Going down
was an exercise in restraint, and I'm happy to say that I didn't
kill myself or anyone else! It was FREEZING going down!!!! Back
at Alamo Square we had coffee and burritos and cookies (homemade-thanks
Corine!) And then it was 8 miles back to Pleasant Hill.
Thursday 3/29/01
Monday I was back on the bike at 6:45 am - this time at the
Downtown Y for a hour of bike/run bricks YMCA style. (Spin for 25/Dreadmill
for 10, then repeat!) At least there is a beautiful view of the
Bay Bridge and the water!
Tuesday was a quick 30 minute lunchtime run along the Embarcadero
in San Francisco, and 2000 meters of drills and technique with Allie
P. from Ironteam and the Walnut Creek Masters at 7 pm. My friend
Sheila made it to the pool for the first time since tearing her
ACL several weeks ago, the girl can't walk, but she sure can swim!!!
Wednesday I was at the track at 6:30 pm. An evening of conditioning!
Wahoo! Even though it's hard, it's a great change of pace! The East
Bay Team has rough track workouts, usually we out in aroud 5-7 miles
in all kinds of wierd combos, sprints, form, cadence, distance,
hills. (There is a hill loop in the neighborhood outside of the
track - nuthin' flat in California!) So last night was a great change
of pace! We did round robin style 5 minute sets of stair repeats
on the bleachers, sit-ups, form drills, and push-ups.
Today is a spin day, probably late this evening
on my rollers at home as I still have volunteering loose ends to
tie up, and I have yet to pack or even wash any of my clothes!
Tomorrow morning we travel to Lake San Antonio
for training weekend. I will get a swim and a run in during the
afternoon, and I wil be SAGing a ride as well (providing vehicle
support for cyclists), Saturday think of me! At 7:30 am I will be
taking off for a 56 mile loop around the lake (the bike portion
of Wildflower), to be followed by a 1.2 mile lake swim in the afternoon.
Sunday, bright and early, I will be on the run course, doing 13.1
miles to be followed by another afternoon swim.
Next week I start swimming in Aquatic Park
is San Francisco Bay, yay! I have been training like a madwoman,
as well as working like a madwoman, so there hasn't been a lot of
time for the journal. That will get better after training weekend,
when my work schedule shifts and I don't have to think about logistics
and volunteers for 400 people any more! (I am the Volunteer Captain
for the Iron Team, and volunteered myself (by virtue of my big mouth)
to coordinate the volunteers for training weekend.)
Go
to next week!
Go to last week!
