Back to Batman Mythos

The Beginning

When Bruce was about five years old, he was romping around the grounds at Wayne Manor, and he tripped and fell into a HUGE cave that nobody knew was there. The cave was really dark, he could hardly see anything. It was a few hours before his Dad, Tomas Wayne, found him and hauled him out of the cave. After that Bruce never felt completely save in his world. Not outright paranoia, but he was cautious.

Three years later Bruce's Dad had developed a slight drinking problem, nothing really big. One day, Bruce's Dad had a horrible day at work so he came home kinda drunk. Bruce came up to him and asked him to play catch. Tomas spaazed and screamed at Bruce and told him to go to his room. You know when your in your room crying and you're peeved at your parents you say things that you wouldn't normally say. Well, Bruce wished that his Dad was dead.

Later that night, when Tomas was sobered up, he realised that he over reacted with Bruce and offered to take him to see 'The Mark of Zorro', a movie that Bruce really wanted to see. So they went to the movie, after the movie, Tomas wanted to take a shortcut to walk home faster. They went through kind-of an alleyway. In the alleyway, the met up with this man who had a raspy voice. The man demanded money and Bruce's mom's, Martha, pearls. Tomas being a man who didn't give into demands said no. The man pulled out a gun and shot Bruce's parents, then he ran. The police and paramedics eventually arrived, but it was too late to save Bruce's Mom or Dad. Bruce remembered that earlier he wished for his dad to be dead, blamed it on himself. At their deaths he swore that no other child would ever again have to go though the pain that he felt. He swore he would stop the crime. He swore that their deaths wouldn't be in vain.

One of the only people who pulled Bruce through this was Alfred Pennyworth. Alfred had just started working as the Wayne's Butler a few months earlier. Alfred became a sort of father figure and mentor to Bruce.
