Once upon a time, a man was working at the Axis Chemical Plant. He realized that the job wasn't for him and quit it to try and make it as a stand up comedian. That job wasn't for him either, he was a complete failure! With a pregnant wife at home and no job, the outlook wasn't so good. He couldn't get his job back at Axis, so he did what he thought he had to do. He joined a gang and called himself Red Hood.
They wanted to raid a card packaging plant that was nearby the Axis plant. He was a prime candidate to lead it. Just hours before they were about enter the Axis plant, he got a phone call. His wife died in a car crash. He was devastated, his life was over. He couldn’t back out of the deal now, so he led them into Axis Chemicals. They were almost out when Batman showed up. The other members of the gang scattered.
There was no way out for him, so he jumped into a vat of waste chemicals. The Chemicals eventually drained out of the plant and ended up in a river, along with him. When he saw himself in the reflection of the river, he didn't know who was looking back at him. He had green hair, white skin, red lips, and his face was frozen in a grotesque smile. He started to laugh.
"It's quite possible we may be looking at some kind of super-sanity here. A
brilliant new modification of human perception. More suited to urban life at
the end of the twentieth century. The Joker seems to have no control over
the sensory information he's receiving from the outside world. He can only
cope with that chaotic barrage of input by going with the flow. That’s why
some days he's a mischievous clown, others a psychopathic killer. He has no
real personality. He creates himself each day. He sees himself as the lord
of misrule and the world as a theatre of the absurd. "

"There's no difference between me and everyone else. All it takes is one bad
day to reduce the sanest man to lunacy. That's how far the world is from
where I am. Just one bad day."
~The Joker~
