AZRAEL: AGENT OF THE BAT #71
Written by Dennis O'Neil, art by Sergio Cariello and James Pascoe; cover by Tony Harris and Jim Royal.
Part two of the three-part "Prophet." Jean Paul's mission to the desert takes a grisly turn as he begins to learn the secrets of the strange new Azrael. Stripped of his powers, will the Agent of the Bat be able to thwart the other Azrael - who wears Jean Paul's former costume with all his abilities intact? And what role does Leslie Thompkins' brother play in all this. (32 pages, $2.50)

HARLEY QUINN #1
Written by Karl Kesel, art and cover by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson.
Harley Quinn is not the story of an honorable woman and her quest for justice. Instead, it's a love story gone horribly, horribly wrong, especially in the first issue, as the Joker's girlfriend must do with out Mister J's "calming" influence. Harley is driven to astounding lengths to free her loony lover. And that's just in the first seven pages. What follows is too strange for words, though it does involve a cameo by Batman. (48 pages, $2.95)
NIGHTWING #50
Written by Chuck Dixon, art by Greg Land and Jose Marzan Jr., cover by Land and Karl Story.
An extra-sized issue finds Nightwing at a crossroads. He must make a difficult decision which could affect the kind of hero he chooses to be in the future. Dudley Soames - the twisted psychopath known as Torque - has been going down a path of insanity ever since his head was twisted 180 degrees by the behemoth known as Blockbuster. Soames finally loses it and takes Arnot, and the entire Bludhaven Police Headquarters, hostage. It's now up to Dick Grayson to set things right, and he prepares himself for the ultimate face-off against Soames in order to free the hostages. But before he can do anything, Dick first must decide which uniform he's going to wear in order to get the job done most effectively. Will he adopt his daytime identity of Bludhaven rookie cop, or will tackle Saomes in his nocturnal identity of Nightwing? (48 pages, $3.50)

CHRONICLES CANCELLED
-----------------------
DC Comics has announced that the November shipping issue of Batman Chronicles (#23) will be the last in the series. Poor sales has been given as the reason for the demise of this quarterly anthology title.
DC ANNOUNCES “OFFICER DOWN” IN JANUARY
--------------------------------------
DC Comics has announced "Batman: Officer Down," a major event running through the Batman titles in January. Here's how DC describes the "Officer Down" premise:
"James Gordon. He's one of the most respected men on the Gotham City Police Force. He's a trusted aide to Batman in the fight for justice. He's also a loving father and all-around good man. But a sudden attack by a foe from his past will leave Gordon at death's door...
"Three shots in the back. Officer Down.
"Batman: Officer Down is a seven-part storyline running through nearly all of the Batman-related books in the month of January (including a tie-in with Batgirl #12). The books will have a unifying trade dress, with distinctive, beautifully painted covers by astonishing newcomer Durwin Talon. Much like No Man's Land, the reverberations of Officer Down will affect all of the heroes and supporting characters in the Batman titles for many months to come."
CATWOMAN RELAUNCH SCHEDULED ?
------------------------------
According to Newsrama (http://www.fandom.com/comics ), DC are considering relaunching the Catwoman on-going title in the fall of 2001 with a new first issue to spotlight the arrival of new writer Ed Brubaker. Current writer Bronwyn Carlton`s last issue will be in February and then following a three-issue story arc by John Francis Moore and Staz Johnson wrapping up the current series in May, current tentative plans call for Brubaker to write a four-part, 8-pp, "Catwoman-related" serial for publication in Detective Comics in May-August, leading into the relaunched ongoing series.
"I don`t want to reveal too much, but the end of the current Catwoman series, really will be an ending, and our serial will explore and lay the groundwork for what we plan to do in the new series," said Brubaker. "It`ll be a Private Investigator story, about the hunt for Catwoman, who is MIA, and will delve heavy into her past and hint at her future. And it will star someone whose connection to Detective Comics is even older than Batman`s."

BATMAN TRILOGY ?

The Comics2Film newsletter reports that the “Pure Batman5 Rumors website, (http://homes.acmecity.com/batman/arkham/23/) says director Darren Aronofsky may have long-term plans for Batman. While it was recently announced that Aronofsky would direct and co-write Batman: Year One, an unnamed source tells Frosteey that the director is hoping to do a trilogy of movies. The source claims that the cycle will start with Year One and end with The Dark Knight Returns. The source did not know what the second part of the series would be” This is the first we've heard of this rumor, however stories have circulated in the past the Aronofsky is keen on doing The Dark Knight Returns.
