Hi
folks –
Welcome
to another issue of GOTHAM WEEKLY NEWS, I trust that everyone had an enjoyable
break over the holidays.
As this is
another holiday week, and news has been light, I am sticking with the shortened
layout for this issue, but in the New Year we should be back to our usual full
coverage.
And last,
but not least, a final reminder to vote in this year's ALFRED AWARDS.
Check out
the categories at http://www.oocities.org/gothamajp/alfreds.htm
Voting
closes in just a few days on December 31st. Voting has been noticeably less
than in recent years, so let’s see a rush of votes over these last few days.
We wish
all our readers a Happy New Year and all the best for 2002.

. DC
BEGINS PR PUSH FOR 10c ADVENTURE
------------------------------------------------------------------
This week
DC Comics released the following press release to the “Entertainment Wire”
service used by most leading Newspapers and News Agencies.
DC Comics Celebrates the New Year With a 10 Cent Comic Book - Batman: The 10-Cent Adventure
For the first time in 40 years, DC Comics will be offering consumers a full
color 32-page comic book for ten cents, announced Paul Levitz, Executive Vice
President and Publisher.
On January 2nd, comic book fans will be able to purchase Batman: The Ten Cent
Adventure, a special Caped Crusader tale that is sure to please both Batman
fans and new readers alike with a classic crime noir storyline from a hot
comics creative team - writer Greg Rucka, penciller Rick Burchett, Klaus Janson,
and cover artist Dave Johnson.
"We're inviting Batman fans new and old to join us as we begin a major new
moment in Batman's life," said Levitz, "And to make the invitation
especially appealing, we're rolling back our cover price on this unique issue
to 10 cents...a price comics haven't been for four decades!"
The 10-Cent Adventure follows a night in the life of Batman -- a night that
ends with a terrible finality. When Batman responds to a series of crimes, little
does he know that a tragedy is occurring in the one place in the world he
considers safe. The 10-Cent Adventure ends with an intense cliffhanger, springboarding into a new storyline running through DC
Comics' Batman-related comics in January and February 2002.
This one-shot also acts as a definitive primer on Batman: his origin, his
motivation, and his methods, even his hours of operation. With the talent, the
content and the price, this issue is a great one for new readers to sink their
teeth into the Batman mythos.
BATMAN: THE 10-CENT ADVENTURE is a 32-page one-shot arriving in comic-book
stores January 2 with a cover price of only 10 cent

.”UNKNOWN” TO DON CAPE
& COWL
---------------------------------------------------
Speculation
is rising that Warner Bros are looking to cast an “unknown” actor in the role
of Batman for the upcoming Batman: Year One movie. The idea is being driven by
the popularity of the Batman On*Star commercials were the identity of the actor
in costume has never been actively promoted. This tactic worked well with the
Superman franchise and made Christopher Reeve a star forever associated with
the role.
