The Way Things Used To Be

What happened to the way things used to be?
The little things between you and me?
Back to how things were before.
When no one knew what was in store?

What happened to our conversations?
Stayed up all night, new revelations.
Way back when, the good old days.
Expected everything to stay the same.

Now there’s no time to at least
To even say hello, cordially speak.
To have room in each other’s lives,
Only receiving not there vibes.

What happened to the way things used to be?
The little things between you and me?
Back to how things were before.
When no one knew what was in store?

It hurts us both to not be there.
Wish we could do more than stare
Into our past and reminisce
Knowing we should do more than this.

Sure, we make plans to be together
But never expect to be with each other.
Saying things with empty words.
Alone learning how to endure.

I try to patch that gap that’s grown
between us, while now it shows
That our friendship is meant to last
And not to fade away into past.

What happened to the way things used to be?
The little things between you and me?
Back to how things were before.
When no one knew what was in store?
