To them I say that if you were going to go out and spend all that money on that sort of crap, you might as well just buy it.
My recipe will give you a relatively flavorless 14% alcoholic drink – and it will cost you less than what cask wine (goon) costs. It’s a great excuse to just go over to a mate’s house and try out the finished product. At that price, you may never buy alcohol again.
Fuck that
Anyway, I have the ingredients and the method down below – I hope you enjoy!
If you have any questions, feel free to email me on gothelobsters@hotmail.com
Ingredients:
Easily purchased from local supermarket
- one 5L water container (still mineral water)
- 1kg of white sugar
- roughly 1.5L of fruit concentrate (orange is good)
From any home brew shop, or possibly from local supermarket
- wine yeast (sachet with 5g of yeast inside) ***can use bread yeast***
Found around the home
- one sandwich bag
- one small rubber band
- cordial (about a ½ cup/{100ml})
- four PET 1.25L soft-drink bottles
Method:
- remove about ½ litres of water from the container, leaving about 4.5L in the container (leaving enough room for fermentation to take place)
- pour the ½ cup (100ml) of cordial or fruit juice into the container (this will give the mixture a bit of colour so you can see whether it is clear or not)
- pour the yeast into the container and let it settle on top (you do not need to stir the yeast as it will mix in its own time)
- leave the mix for a few minutes, or until the yeast is adequately mixed with the water. (This will give the yeast time to hydrate)
- add 1kg of sugar. (1kg = 14%; ½ kg = 7%))
- screw the cap on and then shake container to get the sugar to dissolve (do not leave the cap on too long as the yeast is producing CO2 and may pop if left on too long)
- take the cap off and then put the sandwich bag over the top and put the rubber band around it to secure it in place (squeeze all the air out of the bag before you secure it because it will inflate over the course of the fermentation)
- leave for 14 days to ferment (7 days if you only put ½ kg of sugar in)
- find a warm place to put your container while it ferments (if you can’t find a warm place, just try and keep it warm – throw a few blankets around it)
- you should check on your brew every few days to make sure it hasn’t exploded
- after 14 days (or when the brew is fully fermented), take the bag off and move the container to a cooler place and let it settle for 1-2 days. (this will leave you with a clearer and less cloudy drink)
- once the brew has fully settled, gently pour into the 1.25L bottles and screw the caps on tightly (try to avoid pouring the sediment)
- you can then immediately serve your brew - mixed with fruit concentrate. (I find that you should have ¼ glass full of concentrate and fill the rest of the glass with your brew.)
Other info:
You can store your brew in a cool, dark place (like a basement or a cellar – or a tree or a hole) and bring it out whenever you need. I’m not sure how long it will keep but I suggest you drink it within a few weeks. It makes a great, cheap, and tasty way of getting drunk!
Cons:
- it’s not as powerful as a spirit
- it’s not as nice as a mixed drink
- it’s time-consuming
- you might not be able to find a rubber band
- you might not be able to find any 1.25L bottles
- chicks might think you are a weirdo because you can’t even afford goon
- you probably won’t be able to bring it to parties (but by all means if you must)
- you may be having trouble getting your hands on some wine-yeast
Pros:
- it is cheap
- is doesn’t taste too bad (it’s better than goon)
- it’s powerful (14%)
- IT”S CHEAP!
- the second time you do it; it will be cheaper than goon! (If only you didn’t have to buy that container…)
- if you have lots of it real fast, you will be smashed!
- it’s pretty easy
- you can show your mates and say “hey look fellas, I made my own booze!”. They’ll love ya!
- you can bring it to parties!
BUT remember the next time you do it; you must sterilize everything with hot water (especially the container) and make sure the water you use has no chlorine in it.
